Water meter number does not match bill and never read

We have lived in our current property for just over a 15 months and we have a water meter that has never been read.

The meter number that is ment to be ours does not match the meter number on our bill (wrong by 2 digits). There is no meter in the street that matches the number on our bill.

We can not get the meter reading (on the meter that is supposed to be ours) due to condensation on the dial. We have requested the meter to be read but it has never happend. I am getting worried that if they eventually come and read it we are going to get a massive bill.

There was a burst pipe down the road a few weeks ago and we had to run our water for over an hour to get clear water through, which is what yorkshire water advised us to do. They said they would reduce our bill this quater which has not happend either.

What should be our next step?

Thanks

  • If the meter number on the bill does not match your water meter then you are being billed on the wrong meter.
You also need to contact the water company and ask for a meter replacement if the glass is condensated and will not clear.
Ask to be present when the meter is replaced that way you can make sure its the right meter you have been looking at.

If the meter is outside you property then its more than likely its your meter but the serial number on the system is incorrect (carry out a flow test just turn on the cold water tap and see if its spinning) ,

Are the readings on the bill and meter in line ?

Also it may not need changing, a slight tap on top of the meter more often than not clears the condensation, and if you have a small torch put it against the glass as you can often read it through the condensation if the tapping dosent work ;)

2nd tip to clear the glass:

Get a food bag and fill with warm/hot (don't burn yourself)
Tie off the back and place it down the meter hole.

Leave for a couple of minutes

Remove bag and hopefully you should be able to read the meter

Condensation forms because the temp inside the meter is higher than outside.

99.99999999% sure that your water comp will not replace the glass for condensation.

Also as said in the prev note do the flow test.

LOL you just need to tap the glass and use a mini torch close to the glass :D
