Was about to post with details of the dog warden but see you've already got the dog sorted. I wonder if you might have had better joy with the Huddersfield Dog Wardens, although I believe Marina Kennels have now been closed down ...

The times Ive heard this - RSPCA wont be interested - I had a call Christmas Eve about a stray running round, they had rung RSPCA who told them to let it go again. Police no longer have to pick them up. Dog Wardens MUST provide 24 hour cover but no one will tell you.

Makes you want to scream. Lets hope the dogs are chipped.

No probs Sally, you have done loads of chasing around today, you are very kind for taking the time toget involved, pick this dog up and get her somewhere safe. (I expect plenty of people drove past, thinking 'not my problem')

It makes you wonder what happened, because that story really doesnt ring true - I wonder if she had let them out maliciously, or if they were stolen... also, I wonder what has happened to the other one? I hope they are chipped and can be re-united with their owner, the one you have been looking after sounds like a lovely friendly girl, so hopefully they have a caring owner somewhere looking for them.

Did you see the injured dog, or was that just told to you by the woman?

    Hiya FC

No I didn't find any trace of the injured one, this was something else told to me by the woman.

When I rung the police, I explained the situation to the control room operator and told her that the dogs had been running all over the road and that one of them had been injured, although I didn't know where it now was. I explained also that I'd managed to get the remaining dog off the road and had put a collar on it and she was sat at the side of my car. At this poiint the operator said, "well in that case, we won't come out, if the dogs are now off the road" and I said, "so you're telling me that if I let this dog go again and it starts running all over the road causing chaos and causing danger to itself and to drivers, that you would come out to it then?" - at which point she put the phone down on me!!

This dog which I took to the kennels is chipped, but who knows if it's still with it's original owners.

I only hope that somewhere along the line I have a chance to speak to the owners and I'll be putting them right about their cleaning person, if indeed she is their cleaner!

    Hi Chameleon

It had to be Calderdale unfortunately, as when I found the last stray, it was Kirklees and they won't go out if it's not in their area - that is IF you can get through to them and they go out at all, which in my experience is never!

Ahh right, wasn't sure which end you were closer to and FC had already given contact details for Halifax area. It's quite a few years since I've had to deal with Kirklees but doesn't surprise me that they've not improved in this time. The only blessing is the kennels I referred to earlier closing down as they were horrendous!

I'd heard that too, however something tells me that they were on the news just the other day as they'd had a donation from someone which now enabled them to stay open for longer as apparently they'd been struggling and were about to close??

I could be wrong though. They were another crowd who only had an answer machine on anyway, but they wouldn't have taken her as we were in Calderdale.

Yes, it seems you're right and the kennels are due to re-open, if they haven't already ... http://www.examiner.co.uk/news/local-west-yorkshire-news/2009/02/20/marina-kennels-to-reopen-thanks-to-donatons-and-offers-of-help-86081-22969387/

They also appear to have new owners since I last had any dealings with them so hopefully things are much improved there now. Well, to be honest, they certainly couldn't have got any worse!

    Hi Sally,

It may be worth putting the details of the found dog on the doglost website, and a mention of the dog who is believed to be injured/missing:

That whole site wants bulldozing into the canal, it was a horrendous place, especially where they "humanly" put dogs to sleep.

Precisely, if I told you some of the things I've witnessed at that place .... urgh .... makes my skin crawl and blood turn cold just thinking about it :(

Quite ironic really that it was the council that prevented them from being closed down for many, many years (it's a privately owned council/police dog pound for anyone who doesn't know, not a charity/rescue as it would have people believe) when conditions were atrocious, yet they are the ones forcing closure now when, from what I've read elsewhere, there has apparently been much improvement. I don't know how much of that is true though as I haven't been anywhere near the place in the last 10 years.
