Hi,
I have lost my mobile but have the serial number. Can it be traced by the serial number even if someone puts their own sim card in it?
Thanks for your help

your network provider will be able to blacklist the handset using the imei number. i'm pretty sure they won't be able to trace your handset though0

Thanks for that, I have all the numbers out of my phone but don't want to contact them and spend ages passing on info if nothing can be done about it but on the other hand I obviously want my phone back!!
Just wondered if it was worth it if could be traced.
Thanks for you help - if anyone else has any ideas let me know.
Thanks xx0 -
A network can only trace to a very wide location i.e. what cell site the phone is using, but that could be in a wide range.
I had an awful phone call once where a ladies car had been stolen from a petrol station and it had her dog (and her mobile phone) in it. She was pleading with me to trace the phone just so she could get her dog back, didn't care about the car etc. It was horrible telling her that we couldn't do it.
But yes, the network can block the phone and the sim so that no-one else can use it.

Thanks for that - god thats sounds awful, poor woman!
I'd love to know where its gone but as mentioned above seems like a lot of hassle if theres not much that can be done.
How can they block it though if they are unable to trace it? I presume its some fancy techy stuff?
Thanks again xhieveryone wrote: »A network can only trace to a very wide location i.e. what cell site the phone is using, but that could be in a wide range.

They block the IMEI number which means that no other UK sim card can be used in the phone. However, it can be used abroad since IMEI blocking isn't a worldwide thing.pigsmightfly wrote: »Thanks for that - god thats sounds awful, poor woman!
