Sending MMS from abroad, internet access and data roaming

Hello!

I am presently abroad and would like to send an MMS (I am on a T-Mobile Flext plan where MMS sent from abroad are included in your allowance). I have deactivated data roaming because of the high data roaming charges (I have a T-Mobile G1 which is constantly online and often downloads things in the background, so I prefer to avoid any roaming charges risks). My problem is I cannot send an MMS from abroad to the UK. In the UK sending an MMS works, so the problem has definitely to do with me being abroad.

I know I need access to the internet to send an MMS. I do have internet access on my G1 mobile over WiFi. I can browse the net and check emails on the mobile. So I wonder why I can't send an MMS if I have access to the internet. The only reason may be that the access to the internet to send an MMS has to be via the T-Mobile connection. Is this correct? Or can the internet access be over WiFi, by suitably configuring an APN?

I have contacted T-Mobile Customer Services in the UK and they have just told me to reactivate data roaming. Since they charge £1.50 per Mb and the G1 is very internet savvy, this is something I do not want to do...

Any ideas? What are your experiences when sending MMS from abroad? Thank you in advance!

I don't know a lot about it all, but the MMS setting will contain T-mobile details

I think you will have to temporaily activate roaming data, having perhaps switched off a couple of those other programs that might use it

Does the network you're using over support MMS? Not all of them do.

    Thank you for your replies.

Unfortunately, the G1 is always online. It is not easy (if at all possible) to close all applications that may go online. So turning data roaming on is still a bit risky.

Regarding the network, I am in Germany now and have tried T-Mobile and Vodafone. At least T-Mobile D as sister network supports MMS according to T-Mobile UK.

I guess that having internet over WiFi is not enough, you really need to have an IP address from T-Mobile in order to be able to send an MMS :(

T-Mobile have confirmed that a T-Mobile internet connection is needed to send an MMS. MMS can only be sent over the mobile data network and not via WiFi :(
