Hello :hello:
I've got an Inspiron (Dell) 6000, it's a Centrino Chipset with Pentium M 1.6Ghz, 512RAM, 2MB L2 Cache.
I've been trying to install Adobe Illustrator, but I aborted one installation and then the hard drive was going constantly, for about 15 mins, so I restarted it as I wasn't being allowed to open applications or do anything.
When it restarted, the hard drive just kept going after all the programs had loaded up on startup. It's still going now 15 mins after reboot. I have no idea why. I've opened up Task Manager and the processor usage is around 15-40% but peaking up to 90% sometimes for a bit.
I've checked it isn't the virus checker or antispyware, so does anyone know what this is/how to stop it?? It's slowing me down because I can't open things as quickly. It's taken about 4 mins to just open IE, go to this site, and get to the "New Thread" stage whereas it normally takes a few seconds.
Cheers!

If you've opened up the task manager do you have the name of the process that is loading the processor?
Be worth you downloading Process explorer from https://www.sysinternals.com and then having a look. They promised the earth...and delivered mud. Technically though it did meet the spec.0 -
Thanks both, I just left it to do whatever it was doing and it eventually stopped (albeit after 45 mins!) Just another wild wacky adventure with this piece of carp from Dell  :rotfl:0

I've noticed this thing called WinFixer - it's a popup like a dialog box on random websites then whether you click ok or cancel it takes you to some website which tries to claim it's an official microsoft tool. Is there a way to stop this? I've got Zonealarm Firewall and of course IE's own popup blocker but it still gets through :mad:0

If you search through the posts on this forum there are plenty of folk complaining about Winfixer. Here's one to be going on with ....
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=154405
Let's get this straight here and now.
There is NO easy quick fix for this one.
You might get lucky with a comination of tools but I somehow doubt it.
Go through all the steps in the first 4 posts to this thread .....
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=133269
....then, if still not fixed, post a HijackThis log and we'll take it from there.0
