WiFi: Central London

Hello,

I would like to use WiFi in Central London (Victoria) at various locations when in London from Sydney in a fortnight for 7 days.

Can anyone advise a WiFi provider around the area with a decent number of hotspots and a cost effective plan?

Many thanks
Ryan

T-Mobile - £30 for one weeks access. Or £45 for 1 month. Pay as you go is also an option - but that costs £5/hour or £7.50 for 2 hours.

Hotspots is all starbucks cafes and airports, some trainstations etc. They are the most common hotspots around central london that I have found.
  • A short distance from Victoria, but there's a new WiFi network being setup along the Thames banks - https://www.thamesonline.com. It will be £7.95 a week or £9.95 per month when launched fully (April 1st - honest!), but for the moment it's free - all you have to do is sign up. I've used it and it's great.

    Money_Tennis that is fantastic!

As long as my laptop does seize up in the cold I'll avail myself of the Thames Online WiFi service -- especially as I only need to use it until April 1st. Then I'll look to get a fixed line service probably.

There was no coverage map for Thames Online. Do you have any idea how far from Victoria you can get coverage? Sorry for the ignorant question, I'm not too familar with London or the Thames Online service.
  • I doubt many are familiar with it - it's very new! :-)

It's a mesh network along the banks so I'd say you'd pretty much need to be on either of the footpaths along the Thames (there's too many buildings along the path for the signal to leak in land too far), but there are plenty of cafes etc along there and a few parks. Why not pop into a Starbucks and pretend to be using their network? ;-)
  • PS. As you can see from here, the Thames isn't far from Victoria and although the connection should work near Westmister Tube if you cross the river to around where Jubilee Gardens are on this map there's plenty of eateries around (it's near the Millenium Eye).
