Thank you Dunstonh. All comments appreciated! Do you have any views on the Halifax Stakeholder ISA? I already have pensions with Norwich Union and Standard Life (1 stakeholder, 1 personal pension, 1 retirement annuity contract) but would like to put some additional eggs into a new basket. Sorry, I know we're slightly off the topic of share based ISAs here! Think I'm now clearer on what to do about that, thanks to some good posts above.

I wouldnt use Halifax stakeholder ISA. It doesnt fit with my way of investing and its not as cheap as they make out for what it actually is. Its a typical novice investment that you expect from a bank who can get away with it because the typical customer who buys financial services from a bank wouldnt know any better.

If you spread your pensions as you have between providers, it can cost you more in charges. For example, the NU personal pension can have lower charges than both the NU stakeholder and SL PP/SHP. It also has a better fund range.

Back to ISA, any reason you are not looking at the fund supermarkets?

Yes, I did look at Fund Choice (see first post) and it was their growth portfolio that I was interested in. The funds looked good from what I could gather from Moneywise and What ISA magazine - you'll appreciate that as a newcomer to this game my knowledge is at present rather limited. Thank you again.
