Digital TV Help

Anybody any good with digital TV?

I used to have ordinary TV with a freeview box. The scart socket at back of TV started to die on me so I decided to get a new digital tv, ie it has freeview built in.

Anyway I used to be able to record from the freeview box, I was able to tune a video channel where the freeview box showed but I don't seem to be able to do this for new TV.

I suppose I should invest in a digital recorder with freeview in it as well but that costs money so before I bite the bullet and do that, I wonder is it actually possible to record from the digital TV? I have done google searches but I am just getting confused!!!

Anyway help trying to get my head round this would be much appreciated!!!

Just reinstate the freeview box and video as they were before. They must both have had RF loop through to allow you to do it before.

Check in the TV manual if one of the SCART sockets on the TV is input/ouput (rather than just input). Connect that to the VCR and switch the VCR to record from that input (AV, AV1, AV2 or something like that - check the VCR manual).

EDIT: As above, a much better idea is to record from your old freeview box which means you can record one channel and view another.

I did put the old freeview box back on and I can still record off that but when the freeview box is plugged in the digital tv is all jumpy and the analogue pic is horrific so I lose the ability to record and watch at same time.

How is your aeriel plugged in when that happens? I'm guessing that the feed from the aeriel plugs into the freeview box, then from the Freeview box to the VCR, then from the VCR to the TV? If so, try bypassing the VCR by plugging the RF out of the Freeview box straight into the TV.

The freeview box may also have a modulated output i.e. it can be 'tuned in to' on the tv, it could be causing some interference to the some of the tv analogue channels.
You may be able to adjust the channel that it rebroadcasts on in the freeview box settings. Look for something like 'RF output channel'.

Does the TV have an RF out? If so, plug the aerial straight into the TV then the TV RF out into the aerial socket on the Freeview box.

On back of TV there is

    PC Input
    Video along with L-R
    Ext-1 (scart)
    Tuner with L-R
