sorry I have never had a colonoscopy so can't comment, but just wanted to say that it is so reassuring to hear that others find smear tests painful, there has been so much in the media at the moment about them and how they are 'nothing' for me its really uncomfortable as they can never find my cervix, and I lie there soooo embarased and in pain waiting for it to be over then I can run out of the doctors surgery!!

Just to say Deisel, this has been the problem I have had,I think it was a tilted cervix. And I get sick of nurses there saying relax, relax push your bum into the couch, relax, your'e trying to shove a huge metal inplement in my nether regions!! I just cant relax:eek:

I have also had lots of colposcopies. I think of it as similar to the dentist. Not the most pleasant visit, but necessary & over quickly, not painful, & finally you don't get told off for bad brushing :D
If you do find smears painful, esp with a tilted cervix, try taking a painkiller 1/2 hour before your appointment. At the clinic I go to, there is a picture of a beach on the ceiling, or the tv screen of your cervix to watch.

Most embarrasing smear story ever - one of my friends went for hers and another one of the mums at school was the practice nurse that day (she was qualified - she didn't just pitch up and volunteer to stand in :D ).

Having got over the embarassment of knowing the person looking up your flue from the school gates, the nurse then spent 20 minutes trying to find my friends cervix - then had to give up :o

Men so wouldn't put up with this ;)
