Colposcopy??

Comments

  • Only one and its come back very mild something, beginning with D,I thought you had to have 2 before you went to see a consultant!! Very strange, however at least the gynacologist might know what he's doing a bit more than the nurse at the GP who always, hurts me!!
  • Sorry mild dyskaryosis!

That's what mine was! I would ask for a 2nd smear first to see if the changes have corrected themselves before the need for a colposcopy...

I had one done about 8 years ago. I too am a wooz when it come to things like this. I had only one smear done before hand. I also had laser treatment done at the same time. Told them I was nervous, and they were lovely and reassuring and I found it hurt less than the normal smear at the GP.

I had this done and subsequently went on to have Letzcone treatment, which is when they remove the cells with a wire loop. My consultant told me it was purely precautionary in case they turned cancerous in 20 years time.

TBH the coposcopy was a little uncomfortable (no-one told me to cough  ) but the worst thing for me was that I felt I smelt of vinegar for the next couple of days, despite lots of washing!!!

sorry I have never had a colonoscopy so can't comment, but just wanted to say that it is so reassuring to hear that others find smear tests painful, there has been so much in the media at the moment about them and how they are 'nothing' for me its really uncomfortable as they can never find my cervix, and I lie there soooo embarased and in pain waiting for it to be over then I can run out of the doctors surgery!!

Mine is fairly fresh in my mind as it was only 10 months ago. My smear came back with CIN 3 abnormal cells which is the step before cancer. I had the letz treatment where they burn off the cells, but as mine were so bad, I had to get a local in my leg before they were done.
The actual colposcopy isnt that bad, about the same as a smear, wear a skirt though or else you have to completely strip or put on a gown, which I wouldnt have wanted to do.
Try not to panic, its over really quickly and it is for the best

I too had the colposcopy when i was about 20 (i'm now 37) i was scared stiff too, but from what I can remember it wasnt that bad, shakey legs when i came out but that was down to nerves I think , I have been referred again as I have the implant in and bleed constantly (well feels like it!!) upto 10 weeks at a time and bleed after sex etc, i'm worried myself now too, and hope its down to this flipping implant and nothing else
I'm really glad I found this thread actually its put my mind at ease that it wasn't as bad as i remembered it. Thanks! xx
  • Hi I have had loads!!
Abnormal smears and last month I had to have them lazered.
The Colp is not that bad if you actually ask the Dr what it is it is the looking at your cerix, then if they need to take a sample they will a biopsy. This is not always the case as they may look and she nothing abnormal.
As for does it hurt, no its uncomfortable rather than painful, you may have some tummy ache afterwards but nothing near period pains. You will be fine x
