Advice on my Scenic paintwork
Hi all
We purchased a Grand Scenic last September from a large local dealer. It was an ex-Motability vehicle is an 05 plate and reasonbly low mileage.
This week, having cleaned the car for the first time ourselves (always had it cleaned in supermarket car parks up til now but DS is off school and needed some cash) my OH noticed that there are three or four patches on the roof where there are circles of paintwork bubbling up, almost as if the lacquer is bobbling.
We phoned the dealership today and they have said to bring the car in but the (spectacularly unhelpful) lady my OH spoke to started talking about parking cars under trees (we don't), non-oil paint and bird poo all affecting the paintwork. Before we go into battle, can anyone with some knowledge give me any advice please

It may well have had the roof re-sprayed, due to scratches caused by previous owner.
If, prior to applying the new paint, the older paint is not fully flatted and cleaned properly, then a reaction can occur causing the newer paint to lift after a time.
It sounds like this may be the cause of your problems, tho' it is not for 100% certain.0 -
its called laquer failure
due to cheap products and or bad preperation and spraying methods
while parking under trees can cause issues ,it wont cause this
needs a proper sand down and repaint0 -

I would have thought so but need to take it back over to the garage for them to look at. We did take out the all singing all dacing AA Gold Cover warranty (which we have already had to use for a tappit problem) but it only covers mechanical and electrical failure  .
Will let you know how we get on. Do you think this means there's definitely been a respray then? I am a little suspicious as there seems to be quite a few 'scuffs' and marks becoming apparent which weren't visible when we bought the car, and I know I haven't done

unless its has something spilt on it ? although i doubt it
clear coat failure is usualy a result of a cheapie trade repaint , bare minimum of work to make the car look good enough to sell0 -
Unlikely to have had damage to the roof unless via a car wash or carpark barrier. Although the sloped front roof would pick up chips like the bonnet.
The bird-crap/leaf problem was major in the 90s & early 2000s & was supposed to be solved (it was a manufacturing problem).
Best of luck.Not Again0 -
I think that is the standard reply to any paint work problems ie Water based paints ?? and bird mess or tree sap .The difficult thing is trying to prove it was not the case !!
I had an Audi A4 it was just 2 years old and the roof started to Pitt at first they came up with the excuses mentioned above but after I dug my heels in they resprayed it all I can say is good luck0 -

Yep, happened to my wifes car, left some "bird poo" on the side for 2-3 weeks cos she could not be bothered to wash the car and guess what - we now have "circles of laquer bubbling up""How could I have been so mistaken as to trust the experts" - John F Kennedy 19620 -

A spray job is expensive so if you can get it done for free - that's great. I think its down to them to prove your in the wrong, so well worth pushing for it."How could I have been so mistaken as to trust the experts" - John F Kennedy 19620 -

But there hasn't been bird poo on it as far as I know - and to be fair it would have been a bloomin' big and clever bird that spread it's faeces that far and wide
