G1 Unlock

Hello all, I hope this does not violate any forum rules.

I have been with T-Mobile and their Google G1 since early November 2008, but I now fancy a change.

I want to sell on my G1 (which I will be paying for, for another year), but I need to "unlock" it. I have seen various sites on the internet that state that they can send me an unlock code for £15-£20, however I have read on several sites that T-Mobile will provide you with a code once you have been with them for 90 days.

I contacted T-Mobile and explained all this, however the person I spoke with said that the G1 is a "T-Mobile exclusive" and cannot be unlocked. They stated that they will not provide me with a code?

Does anyone know who is correct?

Thanks, Mike.

    I'd say T-mobile are correct.

O2 and Voda normally supply unlocked phones, but with the iPhone and BB storm they don't as they are network exclusives. Either sell it as locked, or get it unlocked.

Thanks for getting back to me.

I have read that Google are now selling the G1 "unlocked" themselves, and so it is no longer a T-Mobile exclusive?

Google are selling a developer version of the phone, which cost $400 plus around $180 delivery costs to the uk (which include customs charges). The developer phones are not designed for end users, and come with a custom bootloader which allows beta versions of android to be loaded on the phone. From what I heard they do not allow access to the android market either.
