O2 Network Issues

I've been told by several different people (friends) of whom are all on a variety of networks and I've confirmed this with my BT Landline.

Sometimes when people try to call me they get 'Number not recognised' or the beeps and it cuts off, then sometimes it works. I've narrowed it down to my phone as it can't be all the other networks.

I phoned O2 and they said, clean your sim and/or try another handset, but how can my Sim or Phone be causing a 'Number not recognised' error? Surely if it was anything wrong with the sim or phone then the calls would just go through to voicemail?

try the sim in another handset and see if it happens then, if it doesn't you know it's the phone

Have you Voicemail active? If not, there have been occasions when should the phone go into limbo (it is unregistered for the network) in the absence of VMail, the network returns an error.

Yep i have voicemail active, but why the hell would it say number not recognised if it's my phone? that doesn't make sense, surely if it's de-registering from the network then it would just go straight to v-mail?

Oh well, contract is up in june... bye bye O2.

Have you had the number ported from another network previously? If so then there is a chance that the previous network is not doing the divert correctly to the O2 network.

A friend of mine experienced something similar and I think the problem comes and goes. Not sure if the problem has completely gone away.

As mentioned, the other problem could be a faulty handset that is not communicating with the network properly. You should really try a different handset.
