Agreed - 4 megapixels is plenty.
You need minimal shutter lag, and good low-light performance - something most phones (including the N95) aren't too good at.
The small Fuji's have a reputation for handling low light well, and they're easy to use - the only issue I can think of is that until recently they used xD memory cards, which aren't as cheap as the more common SD, but it's not a deal breaker.
The Canon Ixus range is a pretty safe bet, too - it's been going for years, and the name Ixus just refers to the most compact Canons (you can go up a size to the Powershot A-series which can be had pretty cheaply but are a bit more bulky).
I had a Pentax Optio a few years ago (the S30) and that was abysmal in low light - no doubt they've improved but its just a warning that even reputable brands can be duds.
If you've got time to shop around, look for a used 4-megapixel compact on ebay - people are always trading up.Long-haul Supporters DFW 120

Well.. instinctively i'd go for the one with the fastest glass (biggest aperture/lowest F value) and good performance at high ISOs. A fast shutter speed and a decent flash would also help.
Megapixels are unimportant - i have a 4mp Canon ixus sat in a cupboard that still gives excellent photos in a variety of conditions.
Somethings you should be wary about -
Face recognition will probably not work in a dark pub/club (and its a bit of a gimic)
Red-eyes can be removed easily on the computer
Image stabalisation is certainly a good thing to get and will help in the dark a little
I'd consider this - http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/-/257/337/-/5442565/GE-A735-7-0-Megapixel-Digital-Camera/Product.html?searchtype=genre
The nikon looks ok also for the money0 -
Regardless of digital or disposable if you lose it you lose the pictures which sort of defeats the object anywayIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0

Image stabilisation on a camera at that end of the market is more than likely simply an increased iso setting - not quite "stabilisation" but it might help get a sharp image at the expense of increased noise.
