W.Dorset/E.Devon is lovely and there was a recent thread about a holiday let company which from memory was Lyme bay Holidays(cotteges?). The only beach in this area with sand though is Lyme Regis itself all the others are pebble or shingle until you get to Weymouth going east or Exmouth going west.
If you want sandy beaches and waves try North Devon which is a quieter version of North Cornwall, traffic gets bad around Barnstaple so avoid that if you can especially at weekends.

Totally recommend North Norfolk coast! Mundesley is lovely - quiet, old fashioned. Beaches go on for miles and miles.... Real bucket and spade country.
