i know - my mortgage is with fd.
i was annoyed when they said it couldnt be done, then started talikng me into fixed rate bonds instead with my present isa balance.
i was always a big hsbc fan untill this, i thought it would be easy to transfer/change my isa into their cash e isa. but no!!!

First Direct (part of the HSBC group) do they same thing. It is awful attitude to loyal existing customers.

You can transfer from First Direct to HBSC and vice versa though, keeping your cash ISA under the HSBC Group either way if you wish.

thanks for the advice, ive sent them a message regarding this, and stating i will transfer to another isa provider if they refuse to transfer/change my cash isa into a cash e isa.
ive got a feeling they wont do this for me though, so it looks like i will be looking for a new isa provider. im a bit annoyed that new customers can transfer in, but being an existing customer stops me transfering in.
    i will keep you informed...............cheers

Looking forward to hear how they respond - I've been looking to do exactly the same thing:
