I'd guess that would be Labour in the 1970s - oh the shame of going cap in hand to the IMF.

But you wouldn't know anything about that would you Troll?

Aaaaaaaaaaaah, getting home from school and eating my tea under candlelight, watching a Football League match on a Tuesday TEATIME because they were not allowed to use the floodlights.
Best not forget the overflowing dustbins and rubbish on the streets, the unburied bodies over populating the mortuaries.

One thing to give Bliar credit for, is being clever enough to know when to cut & run, knowing full well that Prudence was as useless as he has since proved beyond all doubt.

I can still hear the echo of all that 'things can only get better.........' around my local at 4am on that Friday morning in May 1997, I have already booked the morning off for that Friday in June 2010 when I will be intoxicated not merely by Hobsons finest ale, but also by Labour getting an absolutely hiding at the polls.

    Or love them.

    People seem pretty polarised.

The whole thing is like a slightly less mature version of a PS3/Xbox360 fanboy rant. I can't stand these amateur politicians on internet forums.

Labour fanboys and conservative fanboys, oh the joy. Opinions from them are totally worthless as they are 100% biased.

    What's a bafoon?

You seem to be slinging the insults around a lot these days !!!!!!?, what's up with you?

The only troll I can see is you as you're the one throwing insulting one-liners here and there in the hope to elicit a response and get into an argument. Well, for my part, you're wasting your time, you're simply not worth the bother.

Glad to see you've bought that car - as I recall you've been going on about buying it since your !!!!!!? days. I bet it's great, especially if you got it at a bargain price. Congrats on the purchase :)

I normally hate champagne, but I'm going to enjoy some in June 2010 ;-) Hopefully New Labour will be banished for decades until they learn from this.

The thing that bothers me most is Blair had *such* goodwill in '97 - and he wasted it on personal gain and avarice. I would say it's very unlikely Cameron would get anything like the same sort of mandate.

I voted Labour in '97 and I would say the lasting legacy of their shambolic term in office for me is to ensure I will never vote for them again. I don't think the Tories are great btw - but the worst of them is preferable to a minute longer under New Labour.

What created the most humiliating financial crisis this country has ever had ?

To watch a Tory Chancellor sweating and shaking after 12 interest rises in one afternoon and finally capitulating and having to take this country out of the ERM Mechanism, and beg for funds from the IMF.

    I was Ashamed.

The only slight problem with that is that the ERM was also 100% supported by Labour. Exactly the same thing would have happened on White Wednesday if Kinnock and Hattersley had won the 92 election.

The U.K did not approach the IMF for a bailout, it didn't need it. And countries all over Europe fell out of the ERM or it's equivalent including Sweden who put their interest rate up to 1000% to try to defend the Krona (they failed).

But you know all this, right?
  • As i posted on the "bad under Labour thread" this is pointless bickering. Corporatism's collapse created economic and industrial disasters which brought down Tory and Labour governments. The switch to neoliberalism created massive problems of unemployment and fuelled a runaway boom which crashed to bust just as quickly.

What does it prove about party politics? Nothing - Show me Labour/Tory cockups and I will show you Tory/Labour cockups.
