Switching from monthly to payg with orange

Hi, my monthly £15 a month contract with orange is about to end. I want to switch to pay as you go with my current phone as it'll be cheaper. Is it possible to keep my number and if so will i be charged and will I need to change the sim card?

just ring them up and let them know and they will send u a new sim card out when i did this a year ago i was not charged for the sim card
