Kitchen quote £1800 5 units??

Hi I've just had a quote from our builders for units for utility room from howdens (burford shaker cream) and it seems really high but don't know if i'm being unrealistic and don't want to upset them by querying it. All the electrics/plumbing/flooring is done so quote is just for units themselves and installation. It's for 2x 600 larder units, 1x 1000 sink base unit with stainless steel sink and tap, 2x 600 wall units and worktop over sink unit plus extra 1000 run of worktop with nothing underneath. Quote is 1200 for units plus vat and 350 for installation. Any info grateful.

  • You've been a tad vague, is it a 'normal' worktop, granite or timber are there any joints etc? Is there cornice, pelmet etc. Is there an old kitchen to strip out and take away, any tiling to be removed and redone?

If its just a case of old one out and new one in the same place, it'll take two days max so, £350 labour is quite fair, however he is creaming you elsewhere!

  • Thanks. it's just laminate, not gloss, worktop and there's no wall tiling, electrics etc as it's a newly finished room, with floor all tiled already. I don't know about cornices/pelmet, I haven't asked for any but I suppose whatever comes with that range.

We're paying 200 quid for our appliance towers. They're all the same with slightly different shelving combinations regardless of whether it's fridge freezer housing, oven housing etc. The pricing is what drives me insane about Howdens (in fact every kitchen supplier) but evidently we're on the right side of them at the moment.

I was going to say to the OP that they're being ripped off but if what is above is what a genuine normal 'trade' quote looks like then they're not being ripped off.

I guess it depends on kitchen and on the relationship to a degree. We're paying 2040 for an entire Glendevon kitchen - it includes 5 tower units - the budget would be blown with just those on the prices above. We've just bought another kitchen, no tower units but 2 x 3m runs and that was 1800 complete with appliances. The original quote for just units was 1200.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

The only reason for the high price is if the fitter has added any pipework to feed the sink? And even then its still pricey, I'd fit it for around £1200 to £1500 max. Sorry.

£278 for a 1000mm double base - what are they making them out of - golddust !!
  • This Howdens quote is a joke, I Supply Quality Kitchens all the time, Their retail list price is out of this world, Get the trade price and times it by 4!! They offer these Huge discounts to trade but many people dont realise the list price is sky high. This kitchen should only cost around 3K Retail. The other mistake people make with Howdens is the asuption they are buying a 'Ridged' kitchen. Problem is you still have to assemble drawer packs, fit hinges etc.
A true ridged kitchen arrives on site with all doors and drawers all ready on.

Most rrp across all sorts of products are really a notional price used to work from

i take it 2happydays knows exactly which howdens kitchen is on the quote to be able to say this kitchen should only cost 3K retail especially with solid surface work tops.

Where I come from when joiners talk about ridged they mean the carcases are made up .

I think the double base would include the doors & hinges so
Again unless you know which kitchen the quote is for?

your statement is a bit of a guess
