Can I get a free Virgin PAYG SIM on the high street (or in a Supermarket)?

The story isn't really relevant but basically I'm going away from home for a few days on Monday and would like some kind of cheap mobile Internet for my laptop, that is Virgin's 30p for a day (if someone wants to tell me there's something cheaper that's charged daily then be my guest). There's no time to get one from the Internet, and besides they're £0 + £0.97 delivery, no chance I'm paying for delivery for a SIM I won't use again for months.

Last time I bought a SIM (Tesco Mobile) it was £3, which I quickly got refunded after taking up the free SIM offer online. Time before that (o2) it was free but you had to buy £10 minimum credit; I wouldn't want more than £1.20 credit, so anything more than the £5 minimum would be a waste. So my question is can you get a Virgin SIM for free in any shops with no more than £5 credit on?

Carphone Warehouse have a Free Virgin sim with a £10 top up

  • Most networks have a fair use policy built into their terms and conditions that prevent you from using your mobile as a portable modem. Although it should work out as long as you don't go overboard on it!

With regards to that carphonewarehouse sim, is it not online only? And besides would you not rather pay 97p delivery and nothing for the sim or pay a fiver for the sim in store?! I haven't ever seen any free sims instore!

I have purchased a free Virgin sim in CPW before. Another time (when the cat had the sim) I had to pay £5 plus I needed to add £ to top up in an independent store.
