For what you want the intel E5200 offers great value, its a 2.5ghz core2 and can be found for around £55-£60.
Team that with an Intel G31 board and 2Gb Ram and you have as a great PC for not much money.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

Officially the owner of my own business since 13/01/20120 -
in fairness to the quad = 4xclock argument it could be argued that a highly threaded app would benifit from sharing L2 cache memory access time but thats not the real world.
I sat at a £1/2 mill aix rig today watching a server app take ages and only use 2 cores and no disc/ram load grr.
now the i7's they really are interesting, clock for clock they seem to beat quad core2's by 30%+ and thats not even using SMT (hyperthreading).0
