Apparently these can be layed on there side as "one side only"
Yes I agree you cannot upgrade so much but we will still have a tower system in the house.
I was just concerned that the machine would be to slow and not run photoshop which I like to play with now and again.
There still seems to be disagreement with the quad core replies but none says that the pc will be any slower than my old one.
The new one will be running on vista.

It's not even a fair comparison, as I stated earlier it'll be much, much faster.

Your p4 is not on the chart because it is older and slower. The phenom doesn't show too well for a quad.
I got a 2ghz dual core intel and it left my 3.2 P4 standing.

if that pc your looking at costs anymore than 800 quid, then look at buying a mac.
it multitasks and works much better, even without the super duper specs quoted!

I love the a quad core is 4x*Ghz thing, how stupid are some people.

As mentioned pretty much any core2 will be better than the pentium 4 so no worries.

As for overclocks, my hit list is:
    E4300 1.8Ghz @ 3.24Ghz
E5200 2.5Ghz @ 3.72Ghz (so far still pushing that so not final)

Hi percy , you my have seen this thread -
    http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/390358-e5200-overclocking-thread.html

My e5200 was never stable over 3.5 and it needs loads of volts to go over 4ghz.

Always overclocking can be a lottery. The above overclock has just run for 16hours in prime95 so happy with that, currently pushing for 3.89Ghz seems stable for the minute @ 1.38v

The above was 338FSBx11 to make the 3.7 and that was at 1.36v

Since the E5200 has such a high multiplier I would recommend finding you max FSB
So keep increasing it by 10mhz while keeping the multi so its it around 3ghz, once you find you max FSB set the voltage to 1.39-1.4 and keep increasing the multi until its stable, once its stable you can try reducing the voltage.

Had a look at that link thx.
I am thinking with it being a quad core 1.8 it must be an entry level?
Everyone seems to say that it will still be faster than the p4.
After all I only want to surf the net watch my dl films burn the odd disc and play on photshop now and then.
