Can anyone explain why the Libor has dropped massively, but mortgage rates are higher than ever?
Lenders are increasingly using deposits and other instruments and not funding methods via LIBOR. Most of the lenders that only used LIBOR no longer exist or have withdrawn from new business.
Savings rates have to be higher to attract deposits and that means lending rates have to be higher too.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). i'd describe it more as 'bumbling along' at the bottom
reckon we will see the odd 'up half a tic', then 'down half a tic' days in the coming weeks/monthsPlease take the time to have a look around my Daughter's website www.daisypalmertrust.co.uk

13:56 06Nov09 SWAPS: GBP Curve Moves Steeper After US Payrolls
London, November 06
The GBP curve took a lurch steeper after the US unemployment revealed that losses were larger than forecast. Dealers commented that the short end took the brunt of a sharp gap higher in the underlying markets in a damage limitation exercise. Payers of the 10-year have been noted as the data is digested. 2s/10s was placed under pressure as traders recognised that a break out of 206 bp may afford some value.
Sterling Futures all higher also (particularly around end 2010)
Indicating low rates for long time to come.....
I's expect to see LIBORs lower on Monday. Please take the time to have a look around my Daughter's website www.daisypalmertrust.co.uk
