Very washable paint (matt - interior)

We made the mistake pf painting all our rooms magnolia, and then having twins.
Three years later and the walls are all a bit of a mess with grubby finger marks, mysterious splashes, scuffs and the odd crayon and felt-tip scribble (and that's just from the parents!).
Tried to wash walls down and despite being 'washable' the paint washes off with the marks.
Need to repaint, but want to find very hard-waring washable paint, that will take a scouring pad and hot water to get rid of marks, but will still leave paint on the walls.
Suggestions?

Gloss paint is the easiest to clean but you won't want that on your internal walls!
You could try an oil based paint instead of a water based emulsion.
See if you can get one of those mini tester pots and try it out first. I doubt any paint would withstand hard scrubbing with a scouring pad for very long though.
There may be some special cleaning products you could use to get felt tip and crayon off without having to resort to a scouring pad!0 -
what about eggshell you can get it in
just about any colour going by having
it mixed and its tough.
Another is the dulux or Crown silk finish
or mid sheen I used to have ivory walls
and a gang load of toddlers most days
and use straight bleach on the bad stuff
and the paint stayed on on especially with
so called washable felt tips that in my experiance
stained as bad as any.
When mine were small it was an ongoing
decorating job that if I couldent be bothered
cleaning off I would just repaint over the bad bits.
Ivory seemed to be the magic colour for recovering
over and over and blending in overall, plus its dry within
half an hour.
Ah i remember those days well ,new carpet every
year or if lucky 18 months always hessian backed
not foam backed because smells linger in foam backed
Could have saved a lot by having laminate flooring
wish I had known about that in them days.
Good luck:j:j:j0 -
Ta - thanks very much - will look into oil based paints and 'mid-sheens'.
Rosekitten - we have laminate, but I hate it as you can't use strong detergent on it or lots of water. Think sealed and varnished floor boards with a few washable rugs would be better!0 -
B&Q sell dulux endurance, 20 times more durable than ordinary paint, its great stuff.
Its water based so easy to apply and clean up, it really works.
Only problem might be the colour, i bought it white, not sure if it comes in colours0 -
Dulux Endurance comes in a few different colours - I had the willow tree green in my kitchen uptil last year, not sure if you could get away with scrubbing it with a scourer but it always wiped clean easily enough. Went from that to a matt emulsion and I hate the finish of it.0

Will look into Dulux Endurance - if I can get a tester pot I will do the 'scouring pad' test and let you know how I get on.0

Not sure if they've changed this too but the dulux samplers are usually only to test the colour rather than how scrubbable/wipeable they are.
It's worth noting that you can have any colour mixed up in Dulux Endurance ...as you can with Kitchen or Bathroom paint (though it's obviously simpler and cheaper to buy an off-the-shelf colour.

Good point ChrissyG - I wonder what the difference is between kitchen/bathroom paint and Dulux endurance - except price?0
