If you have the Windows 2000 CD I would try repairing Windows. Go into the computer's BIOS and change the boot order so that the CD drive is the first boot device. Then insert your Windows 2000 CD and reboot. Windows Setup will copy installation files and then give you the option to repair your installation. Repairing Windows won't touch your document files. See Windows 2000 Professional Repair install for an illustrated guide.
