    Equally clearly, he thinks good art deals with fundamental matters. "There's only ever been one idea in art," Hirst insists, "which is Gauguin's f***ing idea: 'Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?' Art either succeeds or fails in those terms. It's beyond time and trend and fashion. I've bought things for £500 up to the Bacon, but I think they are all timeless and great, and sit together really well.
