anyone tried buying a Marks & Sparks "gift card"...these are like their own pre paid (loaded) cards that you can then spend in the store...and also "top up" as well....can someone also answer why (if at all) M&S say you have to leave £1 on the card as other posters have said?

shops will sometimes pre-authorise your transaction by taking a pound or under to check the funds are available, but this goes back into your account after a few days. The amount you have to spend before this happens seems to differ from store to store.
For example i bought amazon gv and had no problems till i tried to buy one for £30.00 (from a £50 card) it then did the check, which failed (something to do with them being prepaid, not sure why) and reserved a pound.
when i did it for£5 - £25.00 they went through fine.
A few days later the £1 was back on the card and i got my last £5.00 voucher!

    1) Had a £10 card declined by play.com for a £9.99 purchase, tried it twice and now balance shows at £8.00.

    2) I tried again at play.com with a different £10 card for the same £9.99 purchase and still declined, balance shows at £10.00.

    3) Had a £20 card declined in Morrisions yesterday, they had never seen one before(!).

Used the rest to buy Amazon gift vouchers, but when trying the card ( at 2) for £10, that gets declined and now balance shows as zero!

Three mails to magnum have gone unanswered. What a shambles, they need to sort out a better system for next year.

Anyone still waiting for cards please?

I'm still waiting on 11 (I think). I didn't claim my last until 11th july and it said I would have to wait up until the 11th august before I receive them.

The have been pretty effective at paying off my Next account, but I have put some in a box to buy the kids (and me ) a wii for christmas, which I woldn't have been able to justify had I not entered this comp, so a big thankyou!

Last of my cards came today. :)
Now I want to use them towards a TV in John Lewis.
I am a tad apprehensive that they will be declined in a busy electrical department as it will have to be a split transaction on 7 cards :o plus cash.
Do you think I'd be better trying to use them in a quieter department to buy JL vouchers and then use the vouchers to get the TV?
Do they charge to buy vouchers?

Anyone had any experience of Magnum cards in JL?

    Thanks! :)
