Hmm maybe I just cant see how people can guess these codes. I have two sticks here that look like they start with a 7, I have tried to work them out but keep getting that the code does not exist - so I guess if these so called ''cheats'' are out their they must be amazing at cracking these sticks.
I'm guessing the codes are actually massive prime numbers worked out in base 32-ish (I'm guessing there are approx. 32 characters: the numbers 1-9 plus the alphabet without the 'O', cos I haven't seen a 0 or an O) so they'd be pretty impossible to work out. More likely anyone trying to guess would start with the first 4 or 5 characters they've taken from a stick and keep using trial-and-error until they get a code.
If I've worked it out right, there are 1,125,899,906,842,624 combinations, ie. over a quadrillion (using the generally accepted US re-hash of names of numbers above a million over the etemologically-correct old European definition). Given that there are 2184 draws and 25 prizes per draw, hence 54600 prizes, and estimating that one stick in 5 wins a prize over the duration of the comp, I estimate there are about 273,000 sticks entered over the duration. Of course Magnum will probably have produced many more than this as some will have been thrown away and some will still be in the shops after the promotion ends, but even if we double the figure to 546,000 sticks by my mathematical analysis we can conclude that people trying to guess codes will really be up s**t creek.
But I digress...0 -

Oh yeah, they would have a 1 in 2,062,087,741 chance of getting a code each guess by my rough estimation, ignoring the fact that they might use known characters for the first four. Otherwise, starting with four known characters it would be a 1 in 1967 chance, but that ignores the chance that the code hasn't been used already (very probable at this stage in the game). I think it would take a very long time to try 1967 codes, but I wouldn't be surprised if a handful of codes have been oh Christ there must be something on the television!!
