Yeah, but what do we need all the guarantee card for?
As far as i am aware most shops no longer accept cheques.
It is a shame cos in the past i used my chq guarantee as emergency interest free overdraft. i.e do my shopping on 30th and pay by chq as i cant use card possibly due to insufficient funds. Next day wages go in, so chq clears no problem. In this way, my account never ever showed O/D status evn though technically i was borrowing with the chq

Well at 3pm I slipped into St Helens branch had an review.

The outcome was that your 20yr old fit girl adviser said Barclays don't issue guarantee cards hence why I didnt not continue with my application.

I am not going to close my abbey account until they match like for like.

    Barclays loss hello Abbey!

They have told you a fib.

Barclays do issue debit cards with cheque guarantee facility on.

HSBC still issue them. Maximum of £100 limit if you're not Premier, they get £250 (we don't issue £50 ones though). They're quite hard to get though, you have to meet a certain behavioural score level and have shown good account management in the past. They would really much rather you used BACS/FPS or whatever to make payments.

I got one (Plus A/C) at opening stage but on my second account (Advance A/C) they only gave me a full auth visa debit - no c/g

HSBC by the way - best bank in my honest opinion..... :T

Do tell me how you managed to do that as i applied and enquired about it they said they only do 2 in 1's are you an existing customer?

What did you say to get them to give you it?

errm.. went into the branch made an appointment to open an account, went back a few days later and they opened it ????

why on earth would I ask if I was getting cg on my card? i couldn't care less if it had it on it or not

crikey! i have three cg cards, i'd peel the hologram off (if i could get it off) and send it to you to you want another one so badly.

I have a £250 CG card with HSBC, Advance, not Premier, I have had it longer than I can remember, does that mean that it will eventually be replaced with a £100 CG Card ?

Eventually it will be replaced with no cheque guarantee because cheques won't exist any more.

    Oh, happy days...

As I have said before, the Financial Industry needs to get it's act together before that happens, there are many Building Societies that still insist on a cheque for new ISA Accounts.;)

And pretty much every other person involved told you about how that was both a minor issue and easily overcome.

Because, yeah, I can really see the BBA going "...but what about Nationwide's ISAs?!"
