If your not happy with talktalk move to a provider that closer matches your needs; That, as far as I can see is what this site is all about - letting you know what the best deal is for your circumstances.
I am in the process of moving to a different provider  Sorry about that earlier post - I was quite annoyed about something totally unrelated (a very important visitor was refused access to our building by our nutcase security staff and I had to run after the VIP's car waving arms frantically as he drove off but to no avail  Two imbecile security staff are now being disciplined over not carrying out their duties properly.)
Anyway, back to the point,
I shouldn't really have 'vented' here. Fact is I accepted the T&C's which in my opinion are tripe, hence the moving to Primus  following the last tip

CrazyChemist wrote:Because that is clearly the only way they can make money, when someone switches away and other talktalk customers call that person thinking it's free, then get a shock at the end of the month. There should be an announcement like on 1899/18866 before the call.
Also it seems that these were early morning calls but for some reason the peak times have now changed from 8am - 6pm to 6am - 8pm.
They never told us about this! Apparently "BT changed their peak times so we (talktalk) followed. Because that's what the open market and competition is all about - following your competitors like you've got a ring in your nose
So you are suggesting that your friends new service provider should put an anouncement on the line that they are no longer with TalkTalk. This would be nigh on impossible to do. What if they then moved to somewhere else? Would you expect the new company to say your friends are no longer with TalkTalk, nor are they with BT, but they're now with the Acme phone company. And you would expect that the phone company would do all this before presenting ringtone to your friends phone? Bearing in mind that you friends may get a lot of international calls and that their callers would wonder what all these announcement were about.
Regarding the change of peak/off peak timings. Many service providers will follow BT because they buy time from BT at a wholesale rate. Competition in the UK is actually pretty good.0 -

Competition in the telecoms industry isn't as great now, seeing as TalkTalk have just bought one of their competitors.
I presume you haven't heard of 1899 and 18866, among others, who have a tarriff announcement before each call, so the caller has the option of hanging up or continuing. I'm not saying the other provider should say it's not a Talktalk number; such a suggestion is ridiculous.
All that's needed is an announcement saying "This is/is not a TalkTalk Number" and knowing them probably an advert asking to convince the party being called to join talktalk. Is this unreasonable?0 -

Competition is greater than ever, regardless of the fact that TalkTalk have bought Onetel. There are a plethora of providers offering cheap calls via 0800 and 0844 access. You are free to choose those that suit you best.
You presume incorrectly, I have heard the announcements on 18866/1899/1915 etc. But this is for tariffing on their own service, not for telling people that so and so has shifted service providers today, so that you, the calling party, can take a few seconds to decide if you want to pay for the call before ringing tone is presented. You surely don't believe that The Acme phone company are about to announce to their customers that "this is no longer a TalkTalk customer", thereby advising somebody that does not already know, that there is a company called TalkTalk, and you could transfer your business to them? It's rather like BT advertising somebody elses name, and, as I said previously, if you have people calling you internationally, then why would they want to know who your service provider is?
Also, have you thought about the legality of what you are proposing, ie the Data Protection Act may well prevent a company from divulging the fact that you are a customer in the way you describe.
Yes, it is unreasonable, if not impossible to expect service providers to provide announcements regarding customer tracking in the way you describe.0 -

I mean TalkTalk making an announcement, just like 1899 and 18866 do, to say whether it's a Free call or not, i.e. a talktalk customer
Having one of those days eh?

That would only be a possibility if both customers were directly connected to TalkTalk, ie both rented their exchange lines from TalkTalk. Many customers use TalkTalk, but they are not directly connected.0

I'm not 'directly connected' to 1899 or 18866 but they give a rate announcement. How come TalkTalk don't do the same? Oh yeah, they wouldn't make as much money out of people. :rolleyes:0 -
Yes but 18866 are advising you about the charge for a call they are carrying for you. They don't tell you whether the called party happens to be a 18866 customer too!
Your comment regarding TalkTalk making money out of people is odd. Companies run businesses to make money. It's a good model, but somehow, people sometimes resent this fact. You wouldn't run a sweet shop if it didn't make you some money, would you?0 -

It's the same principle and therefore should be feasible.
I wouldn't rely on my customers' mistakes to make money because although a good money spinner in the short term, it would lead to losses in the long term through loyal customers leaving my business.0
