Broders, If you were struggling to pay your rent would you want the world to know?
Sigh. I'm not Broders. I'm not Cleaver. I'm not Fungus. I wish I was any of those rather than plain old boring mewbie. But we riff off each other.

If I had gambled with BTL and lost, I might want to share on here. Better than telling friends or family maybe. After all plenty of honest people on the debt forums seem to want to share their problems. Whereas in HP it's always on the up for BTL's. Doesn't make sense to me.

btw Cleaver I know your story, about how you are paying off a flat with immoral earnings from being an accidental landlord. It's OK. It's the real BTL's I'm after.

No worries. Happy to explain, but it involves a number of factors, which people who deal in black and white situations may find difficult to comprehend. :)
Does it involve lying at all?

Broders, but that is the problem for you , people are doing well from BTL's and will continue to do so.

I knew I'd get this. No lies involved. We hope to be mortgage free in a couple of years. It's not that mental a proposition is it?

I dont have a BTL myself but have plenty of friends who do. All are doing really well and a couple have just bought another house for cash.

My brother has a house he rents to holiday makers and he is booked up until Jan next year.

Through our business we do loads of work for student houses - all the landlords we deal with are doing really well - especially as they are extending York Uni over the next few years so I expect it to get better and better.

Saving up to get a BTL myself - hopefully this year or early next.

Thanks :) (never normally use smileys, but I'm taking them for a spin tonight).

I'd like to think I offer a fairly balanced view on the BTL subject. If you asked me, right now, "do you wish you'd sold your property in Jan 2007 instead of renting it out?", my answer would probably be yes. Which I think is fairly honest of me. Having said that, part of me is quite glad we did. I like taking the risk, I can easily afford it and, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really matter in our lives that much.

If I was a BTL landlord who had bought four BTL properties in Jan 2007 with a 10% deposit I would absolutely be completely and utterly bricking it right now. Sh*tting myself royally.
