Cancelling BT Internet....Can anyone help???

I was sold BT Vision in October 2008 to go along with my Broadband from BT and told I could cancel at anytime if I wasn't happy with the service I was receiving. I agreed to pay the £6 a month charge and see how it went. I have since tried to cancel my broadband and BT Vision service and been told that as I took this service out my Broadband contract was automatically extended until March 2010 and that if I want to cancel my contract I have to pay all the charges up until then!! I am actually trying to transfer to Orange home broadband as I get it cheaper with having a contract mobile with them. Does anyone have any ideas how I can get out of this contract?? I am annoyed that it wasn't explained to me that my broadband contract would be extended for so long if I took out BT Vision!! I've just spoken to somebody on their cancellation line but she was as much help as a chocolate fireguard!!! Any ideas would be appreciated!!
Thanks Lisa

Did you pay anything for the vision box itself ???
If you got the box for free and just payed a connection fee ( £30 ish)
then it was on the condition of renewing your broadband for a further period
if you payed the cost of the box then you shouldnt have had your broadband contract extended, the bit about you can cancel at anytime applys to the vision veiwing pack, if you cancel that you would save the £6/month, the box could still be used as a freeview box and pay per view stuff.....
