    Sorry, not helpful but you will not get HiFi for £300. All you'll get is a mediocre sound transmitter with tinny treble, muddled midrange and booming, out of control bass.

    I disagree 100%. At least, so long as the OP is willing to go second hand.

    A couple of years ago, I picked myself up on eBay a Pioneer A-400 amp, which is regarded as being something of a classic, for £50, and a set of Tannoy Gold speakers for £12. This spends most of its time connected to my Mac, and a Sony SACD player I picked up on eBay for another £60.

    If you know what you're looking for, getting "hifi" for £300 is more than doable.
