Hello folks. I have 2 phone lines coming into my house, both currently with BT. 1 phone line is strickly used for incoming calls only (as I use my mobile to call people back who have left a message, as I get free minutes) Is there any discounts or services to lower my bill? I currently pay £33 per 1/4 on BT's lowest tariff, but want to get it lower as I don't make any out going calls on this line.
Thanks

Sorry, I should have made it a little clearer. I have an office at home where the 2nd line is, which is the one I dont use to make outgoings calls. (The other phone is a general household phone used to incoming/ outgoing calls) They are both different lines with different numbers. Basially, I am trying to cut my phone bill for the line which I only use for incoming calls.

Back in the days when I was a student BT gave you an option so you could only recieve incoming calls and only dial to freephone numbers, they also reduced the line rental."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0

Cease the incoming only line completely but have the socket re-wired as an extension off the general household line.
Get BT Callsign on the general household phone line (BT may even let you use the number from the ceased business line as the 2nd number)
BT Callsign - 2 numbers and 2 different ring tones (so you know which is business and which is private) on one line. How does it work?
We'll give you an additional number for your phone, which will have a separate ringing tone when it is called. Who you give your Call Sign number to is down to you. It could be your youngster's friends, so you always know if a call is for them. It could just as easily be an elderly relative, so you immediately know it's them when the phone rings. You can also use it to separate business calls or calls from fax machines.
How much will it cost me?
Call Sign costs £1.75 (incl. VAT) per month and is also available as part of a Calling Features Pack.
Cost? £1.75/monthTime has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

heinz what happens if people ring 1 number while the other number is in use ?0 -
If you have broadband get vonage at £7.99/month for unlimited usage or another VOIP service or get a VOIP number that only takes messages which come to your email and you can call back from your mobile after listening to the message0

I may be wrong but it's my opinion that the engaged tone will suffice to tell subsequent callers that the line is busy and they should try again later.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. I may be wrong but, I assume the engaged tone will suffice to tell subsequent callers that the line is busy and they should try again later.
on my home line i have call waiting so i know a call is trying to get through. does this work with callsign ?0 -

Hi
I operate a holiday cottage and would like to provide a telephone for the use of guests. Ideally they could make emergency calls, and credit card calls, receive incoming calls, but not run me up a large bill. I live next door, and have a landline there (BT rental - tiscali calls).
Any suggestions on how to set this up?
BT won't let me register for "incontact plus" because of my mobile and house phones.
Thanks
