    Hi all,

Any update on DMP responses? I have none to report, will wait to see what the postman brings tomorrow.

Still awaiting some of my CCA responses. Tomorrow is the deadline for Next Directory and Choice (been passed to Lowells).

    Should add.....

Next were first to accept my DMP offer of reduced payments and freeze interest:D. Therefore I will continue to make payments as agreed with them for a period. If after the agreement period (6 months) there is still no CCA then I plan to use this to make a low F&F offer:p. I'd love to get rid of Next by Christmas though......

Change of plan. Decided if they haven't provided a CCA by November, I will write with a F&F starting at around 25% of total owed at that point.:D

Does anyone know if Next still send monthly statements during DMP? Obviously we are self managing so I can't imagine they wouldn't. Surely I would need to be able to monitor my balance, see my payments and the (lack of) interest/charges being applied?

Think I've answered my own question :)

Hi, I am thinking of doing a DIY DMP as we owe arrears for council tax and therefore that has to be the priority.

We don't have a cheque book to send token payments so will be setting up SOs. One of our creditors claims that they don't accept SOs and the only options are to pay by card or by DD - not happy doing either as they took unauthorised card payments after keeping the card details when we called to pay. Can creditors refuse to give their bank details?

Would it be best to send a pre-DMP letter asking for the current amount due on the account first?

Thanks - I've found this thread very helpful so far.

If creditors are seen to be providing barriers to agreeing a solution, then I believe you can report them to OFT (Office of Fair Trading) and FO (Financial ombudsman). Ask them to provide you with details of their policy re: payment and ask them to specify where it states they are unable to accept a SO.

I would write a letter stating your circumstances and offering token payments to all of your creditors now. We can post a link if you require it :)

    Thanks Gargrave.

I am working my way through an income an expenditure form for the council - I have to go in to discuss repayment _pale_ as when I phoned them they wanted £280 for the current year - I explained that if I did this I couldn't afford the arrears. Really nervous about this, especially as it is at the counter - I'm hoping that it is private.

I have downloaded the national debtline pack and have put in claims for bank charges and ppi (if they work they would pretty much clear our worst debts).

Sadly, I am not entirely sure how many debts we have - I have a huge pile of letters but some debts have gone from DCA to DCA and I'm not even sure what the original debt was. It is a fairly moot point anyway as the max we could give them would be £1 token until the council tax has gone.

I'm determined to get this sorted though.

You are within your rights to ask to discuss the matter privately and NOT at a counter.

First things first, you need to find out exactly how much you owe, until you do this you can't negotiate payments with the council because you don't know the full picture. Try accessing your credit report - you can get a free trial to see your creditor report with Credit Expert. This will let you see the total amount you owe and to who!

Then write to all of your creditors offering token payments and stating you will review this in 6 months. I can post a template letter for you if you need it.

Glad to hear you are determined - you will get all the support you need on here :)
