Go on a skip hunt. It's amazing what you might find. Head to better off areas! I once drove past a house that was chucking out loads of stuff, and ended up with designer sunglasses and loads of nice brick-a-brak. :T :T :T
My OH also has a habbit of bringing home magazines from work. Very handy, I'm curled up on the sofa now with a pile of em!:p0 -
My Nan used to leave the bread out overnight so it would dry out and therefore toast more quickly! My mum used to cut toothpaste tubes open to use the last bit of toothpaste. Turning the collars on shirts was common practice too (I do not know if anyone does this nowadays!). Save old laddered tights to use a stuffing in soft toys. Cut up an old washing up glove to make elastic bands.
Re-use plastic food bags. Use the plastic bags magazines are sent in to store food etc. Re-use bread bags.
Re-use the reply envelopes sent by companies by sticking a label over the reply address.
If you give your child a second hand present in his/her Christmas Stocking and the box is not new tell them it got squashed in Santa's sleigh! (I have done this!)
Cut up old Xmas cards to make tags. Use old birthday cards to make new ones.
I come from a very thrifty family!0 -
bergerac_chic wrote:Just to prewarn people thinking of doing this - I tried Depo-provera a couple of years ago thinking that a life without monthly inconveniences would be fantastic, unfortunately it had the opposite effect on me (and you have to wait at least 3 months for the depo to wear off!) I persisted for 9 months before reverting back to the pill. Have friends who have had the desired effect tho.
I second that -- I've had it twice, once I was hospitalised because I was bleeding so heavily and the second time I was very nearly hospitalised again - since then I have avoided it and all similar drugs like the bloody plague.Egg Loan: £5,942.43

Hi!
Apologies to my many friends who check out this sight, I haven't been on it
in ages - was curled up in bed with a hot waty.
I'm really glad I was ill, actually, cos I was feeling really worn out because my
OH was getting a bit rampant - probs why I'm in debt, too many condoms!
Don't really need that Marriot gym membership!!!

Be cheeky in Tesco and Sainburys - If the person in the queue don't have a club card offer yours. Say 'Ooh I've got mine if you like' and they never say 'no you can't have my points'. I do it quite a bit, and it buys a few bottles of bubbles every now and then!
Last week some cheeky git said I was holding him up just for asking for his points! I told him if he's in such a rush he should do online shoppin from the comfort of his arm chair, and shoved a leaflet with £5 off in his hand! He went out bright red. Money Saving Power!!:rotfl:0 -
Now that we pensioners have free travel in our area I can get on a bus in the morning, pick up one of the freebie Metro newspapers that are on the bus , get of at the next stop and then get the next bus home again,I haven't bought a paper in weeks! What goes around - comes around

Not sure if it's already been said cos I can't be bothered to read all these (although I have started and it IS FUNNY!).
Borrow a friends Wireless receiver, then see if you can pick up someone elses Broadband. Nowadays you can in most areas, which will save you a fortune on Broadband!
Of course, this is stealing, so if you really wanted to be good you could ask the persons permission, and even offer to pay towards it! (But the free option is best!).0 -

On a similar note, I go to work on the train every day. I get on at the first set of doors then walk the full length of the train and collect the papers on the way. EVERY DAY I get an Express, Metro, Sun, Times and Mirror, and on some days magazines and other papers. This not only saves money, it gives the girls in the office plenty of Soduko to to, and also lets me snip masses of coupons and competitions every day!0 -
I just wanted to share the news that my diamante gucci watch (not fake, I
don't do fake) came from e bay this morning and it cost me £40. I was very
sweet with my oh, and perswaded him to pay for it, as a gift for me being so
lush lately.
I have a celebrity friend called Diane, who is a beauty therapist in a top salon
in Kensington, who gets me to model for her. So I love throwing a sicky at
the office, going there instead, sipping coffee, reading the latest harpers,
and getting my toenails painted. I recommend her mustard foot rub - it's
divine, the wholegrains in the mustard get all of the dead skin off. Something
to try at home!lush Saving Godess0
