Huge savings to be made on ebid, all the post and packing expenses for instance when nothing sells.

Clearly traffic on ebid is quite a bit less than ebay, but some people here have had success selling on ebid.

  • I also have issues with ebay - they changed the feedback system and allowed buyers to run riot with Seller Performance Ratings, which are less forgiving than a neg feedback or two.

If you get a warning that that your ratings are starting to slip, at this point you lose the right to free listings weekends and also have the number of items you can list restricted back to 10 a month (or so many per a category depending how they feel!).

I moved to eBid 3 years back but have sold less in that time than I can do in a month with same items on ebay. I also use iOffer and Totalbids. Totalbids has gone now.

An interesting note that is that ebay has bought up many of the freeads sites like Gumtree and Kijiji and if you get an ebay ban you cannot get a listing on those sites with your previously used ebay email/user details...

Unsrupulous Buyers on ebay have found they can buy waht they want, make a claim as 'Not as Described' get reimbursed and is no pressure on them to return the item. This has happened countless times to me. They also get to give you neg feedback to rub salt into wounds.

I used ebay to offset the loss on income from my savings, so is a big deal for me....

For personal sellers listings up to 99p start auctions are free.
So, did you start above 99p?'

For private sellers all listings including those above 99p are free during the free listing weekend.
I've just listed 36 items well above 99p and I've not been charged.

Free listings have recently been limited to 100 though
(is that per month or each free listing weekend)?

I couldn't agree with you more. eBay have created loopholes and temptations for buyers and a climate of trepidation for sellers with their unbalanced feedback system. If feedback is entirely voluntary as they say, it's unfair to base a rating system on it.

If ebay was such a scammers paradise why are most sellers still completely fine? I bought from a seller last week, registered since 2003 and currently a TRS with 5 * in two of the categories- no strange terms or conditions, fair postage and well described items. My item turned up in a few days, exactly as described with very reasonable post and packign so I added to their near perfect score with 5* across the board..

Sellers that find they are having issues might want to look at their own business model, try and work out why they are attracting problems and maybe try and change the way they do whatever it is that is annoying buyers. We all have the same pool of buyers don't forget and whilst we might all come across the 'odd' buyer occasionally if it becomes a problem then there is potentially something more serious going on.

Incidentally, the post you quoted was 2 1/2 years old, as is the rest of this thread. Doesn't that rather suggest to you that there has always been sellers who struggle when ebay changes ? It can hardly be a recent thing if a thread so old has been resurrected.

I don't quite follow what you mean about 2 1/2 years...or if that was directed at me? the posts were all from yesterday surely?

No, it suggests to me that while there are great sellers like yours on eBay, there are LOTS of good sellers who are having now having problems with buyers because of some recent changes that eBay have made. Just go to the Community Area on eBay to discover that the concerns that hieroglyph expressed in his post are very widespread. I happen to agree with these concerns wholeheartedly.

It's nothing to do with 'dinosaurs' on eBay who don't want anything to change and cannot cope as you seem to suggest.

The post you quoted from RFW was 2 1/2 years old, the thread was bumped yesterday by the single post before yours.
