2 serial numbers on electricity bill

I'm having problems with Npower and my final bill, they say I owe them over £825.

I noticed that on my last bills there is two different serial numbers so I wrote to them and they are saying that this is correct because there is two rates of electricity.

Has anyone else had this happen to them or confirm this is correct to have different serial numbers for different rates of electricity.

  • Do you have a night and a day meter? One meter counting the electricity used between 24:00 and 07:00 and another counting the electricity used at all other times?

Then there shouldn't be two different serial numbers, was you meter ever changed, can they explain to you what each serial number is for as a meter only has one meter serial number.

As far as I know the meter was never changed in the five years I lived at the property. When I phoned this afternoon the woman I spoke to said it was for the two rates of electricity.

rubbish one mtr one serial number as the serial number is the id of the meter and unique to the mtr - the do not have two serial numbers - to confirm the the serial number for your meter look for a bar code stuck to it and above or below it you will see the serial number applicable.

Thank you for that, when I left the property I took pictures of the meter and there is only one serial number with one barcode. The other thing they keep doing is sending me reminders saying that I owe money and my details will be passed to credit reference agency.

  • Does the bill also show 2 Meter Point Administration Numbers (in a series of boxes with a S in front of them)? It could be that npower believe that you had their old SuperTariff which was an off peak tariff with an afternoon boost that had 2 meter serial numbers and 2 MPANs.

If you find the bill has only 1 MPAN, if you send me a PM with the MPAN I can check the central register to see what meter(s) are registered against than MPAN. It will also identify if there are 2 MPANs for the same address.
