Which vacuum cleaner?

That's why I moved on to the DC14 Animal - I have 3 cats and it really does the business. I do take your point about the weight though; the DC14 isn't as heavy as the DC01, but it's still heavier than some vacuums.
It's also a LOT more powerful than the DC01 and has a HEPA lifelong filter and a second washable filter, which is great for me as I have a dustmite allergy. Also, the waste bucket opens from the bottom at the touch of a button, so that's an improvement on the DC01 too.
Anyway, hope you manage to find the right machine for you. All the best."He who asks questions cannot avoid the answers"0 -
Ah. I have a dustmite allergy too. I may have a look at that as an option.
Most of the vacuuming we do is on the sofas because they're always being used as cat beds. Do the attachments work well on both models? (The dyson animal and the meile cat and dog?)May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
The upright DC14's suction with the brushbar turned off is quite powerful on its own, but with the brushbar turned on - the cat hairs disappear!
This model also comes with a pet turbo brush attachment that attaches to the end of the hose and it works very well on soft furnishings, cat beds etc, and also on carpets in those ackward spaces that you can't get a vacuum in. If the fabric being vacuumed is very loose, though, it sometimes stops the turbo brush, but you can easily restart it again. If the fabric on your sofa is reasonably taught you won't have a problem.
Having said how much I love my DC14, and reading what some have said about the "quiet meile", it may be a little on the noisy side, but I think that's a small price to pay for the effectivness it gives."He who asks questions cannot avoid the answers"0 -
Well I went for the Miele one since it's easier to carry. Got a reasonable deal on it too.
WOW! I cannot believe how clean my sofas are. And the rug had marks on it that have lifted off with the turbo brush. Gave me the motivation to do a big spring clean. My husband can't believe how sparkly the place is. (Can't see it lasting although the intention is there...)
It's quiet, easy to use, light and very effective. The down side seems to be that it's not got as long a cable or hose as the Dyson. But I don't mind because it's easier to move it upstairs to finish them and I can whizz round up there while I'm at it because it's so easy.
Chuffed to bits I am.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
Glad you're pleased with your new purchase, Gingham, and you've bought what's best for you. I've heard good things about that brand - wish my Dyson was as quiet as a Miele!
Isn't it a shame that cats don't like to be vacuumed? Just think how much more sparkly our places could be!!!!
Mind you, I'd much rather put up with the hairs than have no cats at all :heart2: . "He who asks questions cannot avoid the answers"0 -
I've had a Miele for about three years now and have been very pleased with it. However! having had new carpets in December throughout the house it's costing so much with replacing the bags every five or six days - £9 per month. That's the downside. After reading about the Dyson Animal perhaps I'll have a look around and get one to use every day and use my Miele every three to four days. Just wish my dog didn't malt all year long

hiya lara, just thought i'd let u know, just bought a panasonic bagless cleaner which is around £90 in argos, (now£70 in sale) for around £45 including p&p.
its quite a good machine, sturdy and with good suction.
i went for bagless as well due to cost of buying bags.
u can get from miller bros or qed for this price, as they are on special offer.
also debenhams have a morphy richards for £60 down from£100 i think.
would have gone for this one as it comes with 2 year guarantee, but didnt see this one until after i'd placed my order.
anyway i think panasonic may be a better quality of machine.
hope this is of some help to you.Nice to save.0 -

Hi Squibbs, is the 'Henry' an upright or cylinder vacuum?"He who asks questions cannot avoid the answers"0

cylinder, but moves very easily, i have had difficaulty using cylinders in the past, but the new upgraded Henry is good. Got some sort of handle height adjustment, and with 2 power settings, it great (imo)
