Which vacuum cleaner?

I need a new vac. The one I have drives me crazy and I've just spent ages going over what I've just vacuumed, scraping the sole of my trainer along the rug picking up cat hair. Enough!
So that decision finally made, which one do you think is best?
I have 3 cats and mostly wooden floors so I mainly use it for a rug, the furniture and the stairs. It needs to be pretty powerful and good at dealing with hair, and also have a long reach for the stairs.
Any advice? Thanks.

Miele Cat and Dog TT5000 Bagged Cylinder Cleaner. 088/1542 £189.99 from Argos but shop around.
Power is not the issue with pet hair, you need the agitation you get with a turbo brush.
Or shave the cats. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I currently have a Dyson DC14 Animal (upright), which comes with an additional turbine head attachment for removing pet hairs from furniture, stairs etc. I also have 3 cats that are moulting profusely at the moment, and this model really does the job.
It removes stuff that most cleaners leave behind, agitates and restores the carpet pile, and can be used on all floors (laminate, carpet & rugs). Stairs are a doddle and the electrical lead is so long that I can plug it in the downstairs hall socket and still vacuum every room upstairs! It's also got a lifelong hepa filter and a washable filter.
I'm delighted with this model and purchased it a year ago from Tesco online - where I saved around £70 in comparison to Curry/Comet's prices."He who asks questions cannot avoid the answers"0 -
Hello Gingham Ribbon
This subject has been discussed in a thread in the 'In my home' board, with lots of views about which vacuum cleaner is best.
My Dyson has died, should I get a Sebo?
If you would like me to move your thread over to the 'In my home' board, so that you can get more views and comments.........just ask.;)
Kind Regards

Hi Gingham,
I'll move it over to In My Home for you now.

I'm tempted by the miele cat and dog cylinder, but the price of replacement bags is seriously putting me off. Are they large bags? Can you reuse them? At around £9 for 5, I'm worried that I'll be going through a bag a week and that seems very expensive.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

Dust bag capacity is 4.5 litres.
No idea what this site is like but they have cheaper bags for Meile:

I've had 3 Dysons - including the DC01 - all of which are STILL working and the only reason I bought a new one in Jan 2005 is because I wanted the latest model. I gave the DC01 away and still have the DC03 as a back up - just in case!Posted by Grumbler 01-08-2005, 4:12 PM:
The problem is that Dyson’s reliability is consistently below average, so they all miss out on being a Best Buy. If you decide to plump for them anyway, you can find the DC07 Animal online for about £250 and the DC14 All Floors for £240 in Argos. The Ball is currently £260 in Miller Brothers
All Dysons come with a 2-year warranty. With the DC01, it started playing up just outstide the warranty, but Dyson still fixed it for me. Other than that, I've not really had a problem. Having had 3 uprights, I would never go back to using a cylinder vacuum.
In fact, I also have a VAX wet/dry cylinder cleaner (used only for washing carpets) and I am thinking of buying an upright VAX because I hate the hoses and dragging it around - it's much harder work!
Just call me "Vacuums are us"! :rotfl:"He who asks questions cannot avoid the answers"0 -
Thanks, Penrhyn. That's a great link.
Our Dyson DC01 is quite old and very well used so I don't think it was too bad, but they're very difficult to carry up stairs, particularly if you have a bad back because you have to lean slightly to one side to do so. It is also not great with cat hair and never really has been. But I was impressed with how powerful the suction was compared to my last one. I think I'd still be plodding on with it if we didn't have cats.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0
