thephoneworld.com - dont trust them

Hi all,

My mate and i bought contract handsets from thephoneworld.com about 6 months back on cash back deals. The idea is every month we must send them our bill and then they send out a cheque for the cashback. I received the first 3 cheques though I did have to call them up on there billing no. 0871 which you will have to wait approx 10 mins to get through to them !!!! When i phoned they wud say, i'll action the cheque immediately and a few days later i would recieve it.

However, the last 3 cheques I am still waiting for!..I have phoned them up several times and the latest excuse is, we are going to have to cancel the cheques we have issued and will then re-issue them to you...it just feels like im going round in loops...not sure if i will see the cheques or not equating to £150.

My mate has had a worse experience than me.....his cashback is worth a lot more and is due around £400+ Last time i spoke to them, i even suggested i will come to Birmingham (120 miles from where i live) to pick up the money for me and my mate...but they refused saying we are just a mail order only company...

Getting really fed up and will be reporting them...but thought id let you all know as well....in my opnion cashback deals are good, but stick to a local retailer who you know is established and who you can contact face to face.

Thats all..stay well clear

You should advise Trading Standards and I suggest that you start a claim in the small claims court in order to recover what you are owed. You can do this online, here:

Just got of the fone with them......
15 mins on hold...eventually a lass answered the call. Told her i'm waiting for my cheques and fed up. Gave them a warning that if i don't receive the money by Tuesday next week then I shall go thru the Courts and will add compensation etc....And report them to the trading standards

She was proper scared...i didnt shout or anything, just made it VERY CLEAR ive had enough and will not be calling them again but instead just go through the courts..

She insisted she is issuing the cheques as we speak...I told her, yeh well just make sure you personally put them in a sealed envelope and that the envelope reaches a post box! Else you know the consequence.

So yeh lets see what happens.....If i dont get anything then i will be using the onlime claims service - Thanks Steve

    Watch this space..

ps sum1 suggested i call them up and say its the Trading Standards and how they have received a complaint and will take legal action if the cheques are not issued asap.

just to say i too have had problems with thephoneworld.com, but finally got two months cashback after three months - but had to get my friend to call up as citizens advice and got the cheque week later.

Before that had to call them on their 0871 number day after day and the manager never seemed to be in - probably haven't got one
