Phoning a mobile in Germany
Can any help please. My husband has to go to Germany on business for a week next week. Does anyone know the cheapest way of keeping in touch with him on his mobile phone. I have had a look at the "cheapest Chat". Is the price that is quoted the price you pay from a landline and my husband would still be charged the "receiving a call" fee from 02.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

You will still be dialling his UK Mobile no,(Wherever the phone is at time) not a German Mobile no.The cheapest way to call a UK Mobile No from a Landline is to use https://www.discountdial.co.uk 4p a minute 0844 access number.Which will be billed to your landline bill.
He will still be charged for recieving call from UK.
If he could give you a German landline number to ring him on.You could call him for 0.5p a minute using DiscountDial.0 -
Thanks very much for the reply. Would it be worth him buying a german sim card and if could you recommend any and would this then prevent the "incoming call fee"?
Thanks0 -
It could be - there are 4 main German networks and some virtual operators. SIM cost tends to be about €20 with €10 credit. I got a Vodafone one for family reasons, who could check out calling card use via 0800 numbers. But since then some new mvno ones have cheaper calls, like Simyo and Aldi at 16 or 15c per minute. Nowadays I think I'd go for Aldi and a Bizon calling card, so calls to home landline would cost 12p/min.
You can call a German mobile via cheap calls providers in the Callchecker, or if yours is also an O2 contract, you can use some 07744 providers from your inclusive minutes, although only weekdays.
Or if his O2 is on the ITS option, he could divert his incoming calls to the German number for 17p per minute.
As mobilegossip suggests, the cheapest option is to call him on a landline - and he could ask the hotel a direct number for his room.

If he makes regular visits to different countries, then another idea is to get one of several SIMs that have free incoming calls in several countries. Some of these have an Isle of Man number which gives interesting cheap calls options0 -
thanks very much for your help. I am sure we will be able to sort something with the various options available.0
