I'm determined my daughter will not turn into one of the vile creatures you see out on the street, i certainly wasnt one, i was too scared of getting a row, and if we were asked to move then we would. never once did i give cheek to an adult.....0 -

Totally agree. my OH's family are always insulting me saying I'm stuck up and think I'm full of it, just because i don't allow my kids out late even on the holidays. I make them apologieze if the are rude and i take away games TV or stop them going out dependant on what they have done.
i DO NOT give in like OH's family dose just to get peace and quiet because i know if i do they will end up like their cousin's with no respect for their parents nevermind strangers in the street. i remember when i was younger the complaints were about latch key kids, well i bet most would love the return of those days now because these kids now are not trustworthy enough to have a key.:eek::mad:slowly going nuts at the world:T0 -

I have a world of sympathy for the original poster. We had some stupid little fcuks kept knocking on our door. I went out and shouted at the little *****s and the dirty mum had the cheek to come round and moan at me.
Stab the ball and get it over with. If they do it again threaten them with the knife instead. That'll teach em!
SLAP!
It's not always the 'ball games' it's the bawling and shouting that goes with it.0 -
We have asked.Very nice we have been as well But they just don't seem to understand why it bothers us!!!!! And we have the same problem as melancholly they play out 11ish as well and because streetlight outside us guess where they play!!!!0

Most of them only hang around out of boredom
Maybe if the goverment spent more money on things for them to do then there woudnt be an issue. Thats my point.
I'm curious to know what you think the Government should be spending money on for them to do?0 -
this reminds of a case of Miller v Jackson
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miller_v._Jackson
The case is well-known for the lyrical opening to Lord Denning's judgment, the first paragraph of which reads:In summertime village cricket is the delight of everyone. Nearly every village has its own cricket field where the young men play and the old men watch. In the village of Lintz in County Durham they have their own ground, where they have played these last 70 years. They tend it well. The wicket area is well rolled and mown. The outfield is kept short. It has a good club house for the players and seats for the onlookers. The village team play there on Saturdays and Sundays. They belong to a league, competing with the neighbouring villages. On other evenings after work they practise while the light lasts. Yet now after these 70 years a judge of the High Court has ordered that they must not play there any more. He has issued an injunction to stop them. He has done it at the instance of a newcomer who is no lover of cricket. This newcomer has built, or has had built for him, a house on the edge of the cricket ground which four years ago was a field where cattle grazed. The animals did not mind the cricket. But now this adjoining field has been turned into a housing estate. The newcomer bought one of the houses on the edge of the cricket ground. No doubt the open space was a selling point. Now he complains that when a batsman hits a six the ball has been known to land in his garden or on or near his house. His wife has got so upset about it that they always go out at week-ends. They do not go into the garden when cricket is being played. They say that this is intolerable. So they asked the judge to stop the cricket being played. And the judge, much against his will, has felt that he must order the cricket to be stopped: with the consequence, I suppose, that the Lintz Cricket Club will disappear. The cricket ground will be turned to some other use. I expect for more houses or a factory. The young men will turn to other things instead of cricket. The whole village will be much the poorer. And all this because of a newcomer who has just bought a house there next to the cricket ground.Do Something Amazing- Give Blood0 -
Thus making him the most popular person in the village...or not.0

Children being "bored" is down to the parents and the children themselves - not down to the Government.
I'm curious to know what you think the Government should be spending money on for them to do?
Part of societys problem is some think we need to be entertained 24 hours a day.
What kids (and a lot of adults) need to learn is the ability to entertain themselves with a book, a puzzle, quiet conversation, or just to sit and enjoy the view.
We should be encouraging hobbies like walking, rambling, fishing, card games, reading, and drawing. Basic simple hobbies where you don't need to spend a fortune.
(Is it brave new world or 1984 where new more complex games were constantly invented needing more purchasing of equipment?)
Kids don't need youth clubs, they often need attention from their parents, being taught to read and enjoy reading and to learn to be quiet and well behaved. I think sometimes it's almost too late to save british society.0 -

The differance is the cricket ground was there first but the kids kicking the ball against a house were not there first! Also why didn't the cricket ground not erect a guard that could be easily erected and taken down?
