Your friends are so cheeky! They should be gratefull they even have an invite! I'm sure they don't mind paying for a taxi when they go for a night out? If money was that much of an issue for them they could always not drink so they can drive home.

Are your friends that have a problem male or female? If they are female I'm sure they wont think twice about spending about £100 on a new outfit for the day!

I would be tempted to tell them that you have taken on board what they have said and decided to organise transport for your guests, however due to this added expense you have had to make some savings elsewhere and at £40 a head you can no longer afford to invite them! ;)

your not being unreasonable at all. My auntie wont even make the 3 mile trip as its 'too far away' whereas my OHs aunt and uncle are coming all the way from Canada! some people just like to have a moan. I would just let them get on with it and say if they want to come great but if they would rather not then its their decision at least you have made the effort and invited them!

Thanks everyone for your comments, feel a lot calmer now I've spoken to DF (he was at work earlier), I knew we weren't asking too much and as he's said "oh well it'll weed out the ones who just wanted a free party!!" Hahaha... We shall see who comments again and perhaps rethink the guest list if necessary. Thanks again

We had relatives coming from the US, from Ireland and from all over the UK.

To complain about 6 miles is unbelievable.

You're definitely not being unreasonable.....I think you're possibly right when you say that your friends just don't really understand. I'm sure they'll look back on this in 5 years time and be mortified at there comments.

If they do carry on then at least you'll save yourself some money by not having to pay for them lol!

Our venue is a good 10 miles from where our friends live (and everyone else lives 100s of miles away!) Some are driving and not drinking, the majority are paying £70 - £80 for a hotel room and the rest, a lot of whom are only coming at night, will be getting a taxi or minibus!

6 miles?!! Do they not get out much?!

Don't worry about it, you're being perfectly reasonable. I'm still amazed just how many people from the south of England are prepared to travel up to our wedding in Edinburgh, it's very touching. I'm sure they'd rather be travelling just 6 miles though!

They are being very very childish.

When my friend was planning on getting married in Wales (before her fiance turned into a cheating scum) which is a 5 hour drive away, a few of our friends complained it was too far and why couldnt she get married down here.

I told them they could get a £15 travelodge between 2 of them and shut up. She's our friend and if you want to be there to celebrate the day then travelling 5 hours is no biggy!!
