Alliance & Leicester - What a load of ****!

Hi guys, I recently signed up to A&L £100 off, and transferred from Halifax.

Basically, I am very disapointed and wish I didnt transfer to them! Their whole service is pants!

Also, I have just tranferred 3 payments, £100, £50, and £240. All three said that they would be processed next day...

I called up and they said that the £100 and £50 has been accepted and will arrive at the bank within 2 hours. They said they didnt know why it said it would be processed next working day.

But, the £240 would not be a faster payment because A&L have a limit of £250 per day on FasterPayments!

Has anyone else heard about this?

Also, what bank should I go with? I just want a good service (online, telephone). Not fussed on interest

First Direct are renowned for customer service (second only to Smile according to Which?, I believe). Their interest rates are pants but they are likely to be better with FPs. Plus there's a £100 offer for new customers: http://www.firstdirect.com/

Currently I find hsbc have the best website and natwest/rbs possibly have the best range of products.

First Direct are excellent if you want telephone banking.
  • No not heard of that. I use A&L business banking though.

I was thinking about taking up that £100 offer - my girlfriend saw it advertised at the weekend but thought there would be some catch....wil have to look into the small print me thinks! :)

I've just switched to A&L for the 5%.
Must say I was impressed with the setup process.
Cheque book, Credit/Debit Cards, internet and pins all in a week.
Cant fault them so for but still running down the old current account so not doing much in terms of transactions yet!

I switched to A&L from Barclays mainly for the £100 from them and £50 from quidco, just waiting for my quidco money to come through then Im switching straight back, there banking is pants!!! They way they set out there statements really annoys me..... I get paid every thursday but have to wait until the friday b4 i can withdraw or it puts my balance into negative!! A&L say that basically you have to wait until the day after money has gone in before you can touch it! Will be closing my account and going straight back to Barclays!

I switched from Natwest to A&L about 2 weeks ago mainly as I've filed a claim with Natwest, but also for the £100.
I'm not sure what this limit is for faster payments, I managed to do an online transfer from Natwest for £500 & £108 both on the same day. Both payments immediately showed on A&L online and I was able to use my card that day.
Switchover has been fast & efficent thus far, maybe I'm just lucky though?
Does anyone know how long it takes them to pay the £100?
  • Is there not any minimum custom period for the £100 though?
  • Sorry by that I mean, any minimum period that you have to be a customer for... :)

Nothing has improved since I left them then. I was shocked at how rude and unproffessional their staff are.

It comes to something when someone wishes they had stayed with the halifax :rotfl:

Yep, the £250 limit is well known and has been discussed here on MSE numerous times.

A&L have always had a reputation for poor service just as ShAbbey have. Since becoming part of Santander it can only get worse.
