have you ever tried putting a cat in the loft:rotfl: we thought it was a good idea once , still have the scars
lol my old cats used to climb up the ladder after me. They loved it up there.
Silly moggies couldn't get back down though. One time, I accidently shut one of them up there.I thought I had a poltergeist!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Does sound like mice. When I lived in an old house and had some stuff stored in the attic, they munched through everything including my duvet, peppermint tea bags (I'd have thought the smell would have put them off!), and even ate the insides of my juggling balls! But better to wait to check it's not bats, which we also had in the old house. Bat droppings are extremely caustic, so burn through any material (this is one way to know if it is bats), but also can carry a very nasty disease that attacks the heart, so best to let the experts check before letting your hubby go up there too much, or else get him to wear a mask, jsut in case.0

Have you heard any scuttling or scratching noises during the night? We did, and it's amazing how loud it sounds in the middle of the night.
I did on Halloween night - hubby had gone out and managed to trap kitten in the drawers under the bed, scared the crap out of me and the kids. I even convinced the kids it must be trick or treaters as we would nt answer the door lol. Have not heard anything since though.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

at first I thought mice, but then having re-read the post I am now thinking squirrels,
If it were mice I would be VERY surprised that they attacked your hubby and certainly not scratch him badly,
but a squirrel that is nesting WOULD attack him, best he leaves well alone,
phone your local council enviromental health people and ask for their helpIMOJACAR

My hubby was not attacked in the loft i think you have proof read the post and missed the point Pelirocco made about cats being thrown in the loft and scratching.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

Mice and Rat bait and traps are available from most DIYs. Best to leave them where they have runs (they often follow the same paths about the place).0

We had mice a while ago when we lived in a small country cottage. At my Dad's suggestion we put jam (or honey/syrup - something sticky and sweet) on the trap. This is because occassionally they can set off the trap, get the food and survive. With the jam they have to stop and lick it off meaning they are more likely to get caught.
It's only a game

The best bait for mice / rats is not chocolate or cheese, it's Peanut Butter.
You can buy humane traps from the large Pet Shops situated on retail parks and they are open til late. (The humane traps just trap the mouse inside and you just have to release the mouse away from the house)0 -
A few years ago in our previous house we were told by our neighbours that they had a mice infestation, we refused to believe we had as there was no sign of mice activity.I even went as far as to sit in the loft (as this was where the neighbours found them and being a row of terrace houses it was thought they could run through) with a torch (switched off) for about 40 minutes in total silence to look and listen for the little blighters...............nothing!!
But just to be on the safe side we lay 3 traps with chocolate, next day I checked, 2 of the traps had caught mice! After that we went to war on them with several traps and never saw them for months after.
It just goes to show that anyone can have mice without the obvious signs!0
