I am using Cadbury dairy milk. Will try bread to see whether it will work here.
CCStar, did your house smell afterwards? A colleague told me that their house stank for 3 weeks after pest control visit. Also, next door had couple of visits from one pest control company, and still have mice, month later.
I blocked small holes around radiator pipes, need to get some covers for air bricks today. Imposible to block all holes, some are leading to the loft and are in some narrow cupboards (hot water tank) and not reachable. But will try to block what it can be reached.
No noise last night, but we know they are here, they can not just disappear.
Didn't hear any mouse packing noises:)nat0 -
@ Nat, if you live in a terraced house
ALL your neighbors need to be treated for the mice infestation...
I also live in a terrace house and the problem started with one neighbor that lives five doors away from me...So All us neighbors without a cat in the house are sighting these nasty little furry things (They are funnily enough skipping houses with cats or houses that are next door to some one that owns a cat)
I'm still angry that she didn't notify the rest of us, so we could take action to block holes and lay traps. She knew about it since April, 2007.
I didn't sight the first mice in my home and his droppings until November 2007. And I have no way of knowing if he was visiting beforehand, even though I only found small amounts of his droppings when I searched after first sighting the nasty thing...
...I'm very paranoid now myself
Get through two bottles of bleach and one bottle of flash with bleach every week.
I'm constantly wiping and mopping and throwing away clothes and mop heads
I'm afraid to go into the kitchen in the morning, as I'm scared that I'll see one running across the kitchen floor. I've really had enough, really I have.
The woman with the infestation (with mice and rats) has had pest control come to her home 3 times and still she has the problem. She had to really push to get them out too, as our housing association doesn't want to acknowledge the problem. She has a cat now and says it's helping in a way BUT I heard once they have moved in a cat is of no use...
..Oh and to cover the airbrick vents, B&Q sells sheets of very fine mesh covering. I brought a gold colored one for £8.00. Cut it to shape to fit over the airbrick vent then fixed it on using caulk...Also told my neighbors to do the same and they also followed suit...
...And if you haven't already check every where you can for them
Even behind the bath paneling, if you can take it of. You be surprised where them nasty things can end up. I found a dead one behind there...And check underneath the kitchen cupboards too (if you haven't already)...I also found a dead one there and the woman with the infestation says that's where they were coming from in her house. There was a hole under there leading from outside...0 -
I have three cats and they BRING LIVE MICE IN sometimes. Bruno is such a wuss it is as if he can't bear to kill them and Tilly seems to secrete them in the house to play with later.
My mother has mice and I think I've found at least some of the entry points. Great idea about the expandable filler - never thought of that - in the past I have had some success by blocking small holes with Brillo pads. The wire wool will be unpleasant to chew, plus it's impregnated with soap - I know mice can eat soap, but if they're put off by wire wool as well it's a double whammy for them.0 -

I dont have mice but did have a dead thing somewhere in my flat and the flat downstairs (it smelt dreadful my landlord told me that it was my imagination). Not so, when my flat was infested with flies but that's another story. I spoke to my local pest controller and mentioned that mice, rats and squirrels had been reported in my flat and other homes near me (the Rover works has been demolished and the little blighters are looking for new homes), he told me to use a Little Nipper Mouse Trap (or a Big Nipper for a rat) and bait it with Rolos because they keep them sitting on the trap licking off the chocolate. Bounty Bars are good for catching squirrels apparently.
So the question is...would you share your last rolo with a mouse?0 -
A year ago we had an infestation of rats. Started off with one, and then all the babies started to arrive. They were climbing up our fences to get at the peanut cages for the birds and generally becoming increasingly bold. We eventually had to call the Pest Control people in, but be warned, the sight of dying rats wandering around your house or garden is not a very pleasant sight. Sometimes they disappear off into dark corners to die and the smell can be pretty appalling as their corpses decay. Watching them slowing collapsing and dying in the garden, even if you don't like the creatures, is distressing for any animal lover.0

We got rid of our mice by filling the holes with both filler and steel wool. You have to really hunt round to find their runs though. Also put brush-like draught excluders under all doors.0

We've had a mouse problem all winter and it's a nightmare! I get woken up at various times during the night by the scurrying and scratching.
We have no loft as our house is open to full height of the roof with plasterboard under the rafters. The mice are between these and therefore the only place to put poison is through the ceiling rose. We've tried this and heard them eating it, we were recommended to keep putting more poison in so we did. It went quiet for a while (1 month) and now they're back:mad:
We've also got one of those ultrasonic plug in devices but that doesn't seem to deter them.
Anyone got any suggestions?0
