Ebay collection prob...

I arranged to collect an item that needed a van today and the seller emailed and said they would be there from 12-3 today.

I paid £80 for a man wth van to go and pick it up for me and he has just left after 3 hours sat outside.

I paid by paypal so should get my money for the item back but as you can imagine I'm terribly upset at losing £80 for a collection that was firmly arranged but the seller let me down.

Ive tried emailing, phoning and texting without success. Is there anything I can do? Ebay sent me her contact details but its just a town, no address

Sorry, but where was the man in the van waiting, outside the sellers address? If so I don't understand your last bit:

Outside the shop address we were given for collection. I asked ebay for her contact details to see if there was any further info but it only lists a town, no further address details

There is going to be very little you can do here, does it all check out legit, this isn't a hit and run scam is it? I'm just concerned as it is a rare seller that allows collection on a paypal item.

Personally I would be looking to get my money back now ASAP.

yeah i'd have to agree with soolin(get your money back ASAP), because IMO if its a collection only item, surely the smart thing to do is pay in person with cash

Ive put a claim in with paypal and it seems all above board to some extent. The driver that went checked with another shop owner who confirmed it is the correct shop etc but I am incensed at being made to lose all that money for nothing.

Another buyer of hers is apparently going to collect an item at 4pm (I contacted them through ebay) and have asked her to let me know if she manages to get hers.

The item itself was only £40 but was still worth the collection costs of £80

I was planning to pay cash on collection but she said this morning by email that she doesn't allow that and wanted paypal so I paid immediately and confirmed that the carrier was on his way. Nothing from her since though

I would be furious!! Did the man with van leave some sort of note to say he'd waited 3 hours?

I would be asking that they send the item at their own expense, or you'll be seeking your £80 back through the small claims court!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

when you get a refund fromPP, dont you normally get your postage back too? Can this £80 not be classed as the postage payment?

No as OP paid it to a third party, seller was not charging postage so there is nothing to reclaim.
