After hearing a dribbling dripping sound coming from the loft the other night... I investigated and found out (to my relief) that we didn't have a leak but the cold water tank filling valve wasn't functioning properly.
At the weekend I replaced this with a Torbeck compact filling valve and included the flow restrictor as reccomended for high pressure flow. Just after the valve shuts off theres a vibrating/farty noise (which was amusing at first but now annoying). Any ideas how to solve this new problem?

Assuming it's a genuine Torbeck valve, phone Opella - the manufacturers. They have parts they can send you that are designed specifically to solve this problem. Ask for their "anti water hammer" parts. They sent them to me free of charge along with instructions when i had a similar problem. Until you receive the parts you could try turning down the nearest stopvalve to the tank supply. The parts can be fitted without having to replumb the valve to the tank.
From what i understand, what causes the problem is that the valve cuts off suddenly creating a ripple/wave effect in the water across the surface of the tank (which is amplified by the plastic tank), the ripple moves the float up and down which then opens and closes the valve in response. The extra parts create an air buffer in the valve which makes the float arm less sensitive to the ripples in the tank and turns off the valve less sharply. I know this as i read the patent (pending) application.
Hope that helps
