Its simple really, 'Ooop north' is any part of the UK that is north of Watford.

Anywhere north of Hampstead Heath, surely? I reckon there are 'here be dragons' signs as soon as you leave London :p

Congratulations sophiesmum on the expansion to your frugal lifestyle :D I'm most excited for you. Well done to everyone else who's getting on with their challenges.

I'm getting distracted at the mo by various personal things but still plodding away at the revision. On the plus side, I'm not spending much, though I did blow £25 on some new printer cartridges to print my revision notes last week.

    Hope all is well :)

I looked at that cheese Shaz, is it strong, because I don't like mild stuff, it tastes like plastic, the stronger the better.:D One of my sisters said that I have tastebuds like an old man, cause everything has to be strong, like cheese and coffee.

Huubys the cheese eater round here and he says yes ,i'm not really lover of mature as i think it tastes gritty (is it just me?) we got the one in the black packets

only problem is the more there is the more he eats!!!:rotfl:

Hi everyone! Just popped in to say that I'm still here. Really busy with welcome visitors at the moment so will never be able to catch up with all the previous posts but I'm glad to find out that you're all still here too.

Need to work out my totals for April later and update my sig, overall it was a good month.
Have been out buying bits and pieces today for new place but not counting any of this in budget as it will all be coming from savings, which is a good thing as have spent quite a bit of money today:o, managed to get some good deals though on a couple of items and found a few bargains whilst I was out and about.:D

Well I'm getting there with my all in budget. Only £69 over this month and that was mostly due to a new pair of trainers as my old ones had had it. Think being really aware of my clothes shopping habit for a month has really helped, went into an outlet store yesterday and spotted (and tried on) a pink coat which looked gorgeous. I got in the queue to pay and then I actually thought about it a bit and realised that I have a very similar type coat in a different colour that I hardly wear. So vowed to wear my coat more and put the pink one back.
  • Hello all

I'm still here!! Just about keeping up with the posts! ;)

Nyk - Daisy was weighed about 2 weeks ago and she was 11 1b 1!! She's a big girl but VERY beautiful!!

DH was had his first week subcontracting, I think it is harder work but pays more. I'm thinking of going self employed to sell Phoniex cards. I know it doesnt work for everyone... I dont need to make loads of money but just a little bit would come in handy.

    Anyway, waffle over x

Good morning, hope everyone is having a good weekend despite a few scrapes (pardon the pun :D).

SM - let me know what sort of things you are looking for just in case I can help out and save you splashing out on new. Don't buy a lawnmower just yet. :)

Cha, I hope things work out alright with car, tax credits, friend's health, your glasses/eyesight and that the party goes well.

Pip's Mum, hope you all have a most memorable naming ceremony day but WOW at the cost - sounds more like Pip's getting married if compared to the scale my sort of budget permits. :rotfl:

Loopy, good luck with the self-employment (must Google to find out what the cards are, though :o) and I hope DH gets on well with his subbie-ing.

Vixstar, what more can I say than :j:beer::j:D:T for your frugal achievement in not buying the unneccesary coat. You should be feeling really proud of yourself. I'd make a frugal trifle to celebrate that achievement, so make yourself something as a special treat as it'll be well deserved. You'll soon claw back the overspend if you can manage a few underspends :)

SFT - I hadn't counted you out of the challeneg, don't worry. You're in with the bricks now and there's no escaping frugalitis. :rotfl: Can't wait to hear all about your new life in the country when it all happens - less than 3 weeks now! :j And as for cheap old mobile phone, I sent mine to the place that usually pays for them only to get told it was worthless, but at least they disposed of it. Apparently, they can crush up mobile phones to make aeroplanes! Does that mean that if you take a Boeing 747, it could actually have been a Nokia in a previous life?! Or cheaper still, an Alcatel??:rotfl:

On the subject of water rates, waaaaaaaaaay up here in Scotland, water rates are added to the council tax bills along with sewage rates. I think ours should be about £25 per month, but we don't pay any at this address, as we don't mains water supply or mains sewage.

First load of washing is hanging out and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the rain has passed us now.

Have a great holiday weekend Sunday, everyone :)

Thanks Nyk. Not sure I would moving at all if it wasn't for this thread. It really focuses the mind on what really makes you happy. Really excited but want that dreaded survey to come back without any big, nasty surprises.

Managed to find a website that would take my very cheap phone for £3 but I'll wait until the money arrives before I believe that one.

Well we have decluttered the lounge. Just need boxes to pack stuff in.

Got 5 skirts on ebay-2 have bids, 2 more being watched, 1 has no interest so hoping to earn a bit towards £5 a day challenge.

Been reading about 101 in 1001 challenge ..what is this challenge...does anyone know?

Off to my nephew's 16th birthday party later. Nice free dinner for me and Mr SFT. Got to pop down to Mr T to pick up some bits, will take some MOCs with me.

    this is it SFT:

    http://www.dayzeroproject.com/

It's about choosing 101 things you want to do in life but never get round to and committing to doing them all in the next 1001 days (about 2.5 yrs). Great for list makers who love crossing things off.

There is a thread somewhere too where people on MSE have signed up for it I think it is in the discussion thread.
I discovered it via andan while lurking on SM's 'what dfw have you done' forum.
I have found it very inspirational for focusing my mind on what I really want to do & what inspires me; I'm still working on my list - not the job of 5 mins.

Thanks for everyones kind comments re my mosaic.
Someone was asking about classes/workshops: your best bet is trying your local adult education centre for new courses starting in Sept. I found mine via google and gumtree.
Chamichelle - my ideas just pop nto my head really and /or from doodling. I go with designs that make me smile and work on not 'making them more sensible' As for the mosaic side of it - still very much learning and that piece I only planned ahead for each different section as I went along, trusting instincts and changing what I didn't like even if I couldn't say why.
Yes SM- it did take quite a few hrs :D- in part becasue I was trying out what worked as I went along. It wouldn't take so long to do a second one of a similar design, but I am still into trying something differnt every time to hone my own style and skills.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once
